Because they spied on Sessions as well.

I disagree. Bolton served a purpose. Kind of like a gimp to other countries. If countries started getting uppity, Trump could bring out the gimp who loves to bomb the frick out of everything and use merely his presence to make them get in line.
Sessions on the other hand was was some Alabama Gump who didn't have the fastball for the big leagues. It is what it is. He's a fine guy, but he just didn't have the cock and balls to survive and folded like a cheap suit at the first sign of pressure. Very sad.

Instead, he contacted several of his never-Trump GOP buddies in the Senate, told them he was recusing, but wanted to stay as AG, and was concerned the POTUS might force him out. Those Senators (led by McCain) contacted the WH warning Trump not to dismiss Sessions, or he'd not get a single item of legislation passed. So Sessions stayed.
Meanwhile it was evident Roy Moore was running for Sessions old Senate seat. The Trump team encouraged Sessions to resign as AG, and retake his Senate seat. SESSIONS REFUSED! ...essentially handing the seat to Democrat Doug Jones.
He was at best, feckless as AG. He would have had Trump's full support if he chose to run in the AL special Senate election. Sessions picked a different road.
He earned his just "reward".
