Also, the fact Social Security is compulsory should have people marching in the streets. It's highway robbery.

Middle class and low end republicans have always voted against their best interest, social security and healthcare wont be any different.

the recent tax cut hurts our cash flow by 200 billion this year due to lower tax on corps, and so we need to cut Medicare to come up with the difference.

Were going to lose social security because we’re going to run out of money. It’s just math at this point.
Something has to be done and it’s going to be a raise of retirement ages. It’s not politics, it’s math. 1+1=2. We will run out of money.
And as far as Medicare and Medicaid go, what makes you think those can be done away with?

And many people in Red states rely on social security. Look up the top 10 with drawers in the US.
Maybe you should dig deeper into the demographics of those who withdraw from said social security. Don’t think you’re gonna be able to pin that on the “reds” in the state bud

Those are 3 of the most popular programs in American History.
You just stated clearly why this topic is complete bullsh!t.
There can be controls, means testing and other things to squeeze a little more money and efficiency out of these programs but that is all that will happen. These are politicians you are talking about not public servants.

The issue is your narrow definition of what you perceive those programs to be...
They have become more than "stuff we get when we get old" and have turned into massive piggie bank for all ages and especially for those who know how to take advantage of the system.
If anything, they're going to cut what those under 65 get...not what 65+ get.
But hey, lets ignore that and just trolololol along with you.

The politicians have fricked up Social Security and Medicate beyond repair. It was not to be a rainy day fund for the government to dip into whenever they felt like it, but that is what it turned out to be. I'd rather see it scrapped and something new put in. How long the replacement will last before the government fricks that one up too would remain to be seen.
Why am I not concerned for myself? Because I don't trust the government to ever take care of me, so I made my own arrangements for my retirement. If Social Security is still around when I retire in 25 years, so be it. If it's not, I am prepared.
Your retort will be "What about those who can't afford or don't have the means to save for their own retirement?" Well, what of it? What does it have to do with me? I can only look out for me and mine; I can't worry about everyone else.

But I'm presenting this because at its core, it's the purest form of government theft.
No, you presented it as a question as to "why I am not afraid of losing Social Security and Medicare"...
When you get down to it, most government programs are nothing more that government theft... If I pay taxes and send my kids to private school, then my taxes are being taken with no return... Millions of other examples of waste, neglect, and abuse...
So, it sucks but I do not fear it and as a matter of fact, I have expected it my entire life... So, I worked, structured things in a manner that would benefit me later in life, invested in multiple outlets, etc...
If I happen to draw SS or benefit from Medicare in some manner, then it will just be icing on the cake but don't sit there and act like this is the first government taking of wealth and redistributing...
Posted on 10/24/18 at 9:27 am to volod
Because i have invested well, and was determined from a young age to not be dependent on the government for anything later in life

Here’s the thing. Popularity has nothing to do with it. The programs are ineffective, bloated, and goin bankrupt. The current system is not sustainable.
We have to cut entitlement spending and restructure them or we’re going to cut the programs all together eventually.

Agreed.
Any advice to guys under 30 or in their early career.

I work in the public sector, so I'm not even going to be eligible for SS unless I retire early and go private for 10 years.
So, I don't care if the program collapses. I'm not paying into it anyway.

If you are below 45 years old, I see this as a huge problem. Why is this being ignored on here.
I'm 36, when I plan and save for my retirement I don't account for Social Security or Medicare. I will be able to take care of myself and my wife without them, anything that comes from Social Security will just be gravy

Don’t worry boomers, no one is taking your opioid meds and social security even if it means saddling your children and grandchildren with even more debt.
Posted on 10/24/18 at 9:33 am to volod
Anyone who plans on relying on SS or Medicare is a fool.

Why are you not afraid of losing Social Security and Medicare?
Because every year the Democrats told me we were about to lose it. And that annual warning started 50 years ago. When are you going to discover that everything a Dem says is a lie?
