It's a pendulum just like everything else. The side that claims the moral superiority and righteousness is automatically at a disadvantage because they are constrained by their puritanical ideology. That doesn't lend itself to comedy.

There are category jokes about everything from Aggies to Polish people. There are no Klingon jokes. That's because Aggies and Polish people actually exist and Klingons don't. The best humor has some basis in reality. Nothing the left believes has any basis in reality. That's why left wing memes fall flat.

I look at it as the jocks vs the nerds to be honest. Every leftie I’ve ever met was a huge loser/nerd.

Actually this is incorrect. The current situation as it stands is this:

Hipsters, artists, creative types, etc. on the left.

Jocks, nerds, and outcast badboys on the right.

It's a misnomer to label the left as nerds because very very few of them are involved in any technical or STEM field. The overwhelming majority of people I know who are involved with tech (programmers) or engineering outside of academia have been at a minimum libertarian to many being far right conservative.

The reason the left is labeled nerds is because they are all small souled bugmen who consume pop culture at an outsized rate. These are the types who larp as nerds in cosplay without actually knowing anything about the source material. That is, it's all a facade for them and extremely shallow. None of these people do anything technical and don't know anything about science or mathematics, which is required to be a nerd. An actual nerd who is into something scifi is going to be someone who is vastly into technical details about the source material and could give you numbers about the explosive yield of specific weapons or the capabilities of certain ships.

The other interesting thing that has happened is that the jocks, nerds, and outcasts are all aligned politically now. Why is this interesting? Because historically these groups have generally been antagonistic to each other. What brought them together? The fact that all of their interests have been labeled as infested with "toxic masculinity". Now that this has happened, it's been rather interesting at places like /pol/, the manosphere, alt right places, etc. as these disparate groups have begun to figure out how to co-exist. This is part of why self improvement, lifting weights, improving yourself, reading philosophy, etc. are now all things many on the right do. The jocks brought physical fitness, the nerds brough knowledge and philosophy, and the outcasts brought charisma and trolling.

Are you really trying to argue that jokes about the other team are objectively funnier than jokes about your team? Come on man.

That's a good answer and makes a lot of sense.

Objectively, they are so much funnier and creative. Its an interesting phenomena.

when your target of poking fun consists of old, white, and male, it can only go so far.

when you can make fun of women, men, whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, old, millennials, transgenders, and gays, you have a shitton more source material.

obviously you're more of a target for being racist/sexist/homophobic/whatever with those sort of jokes, but they're funny because there's usually truth in stereotypes.

also there's joking and there's being an a-hole. i can laugh at about anything, but there are lines

i.e.

**** ADMINS I'M JUST USING EXAMPLES. PLEASE DON'T AXE ME ****

everybody can laugh at that, because it's joking blacks can't swim and some black guys obviously participated in it. when you can make that sort of joke and expand on it, it lends itself to better humor

i can chuckle at that but it's racist AF and i don't condone it.

When you have to focus your parody on a very specific subject and you go after everyone that doesn't follow suit, it's going to get drowned out. Chappelle hit it on the head. It's hard to get a fresh take in that kind of atmosphere.

occupy democrat graphics are the dumbest things i have ever seen. they are wrong or misleading about everything. yet lefties just think they are so clever and erudite. i've given up on debunking all that crap because the people who post them don't want to hear it. they just unfriend you because they can't take it.

As someone who is on neither "team", the ones from the "alt-right" tend to be pretty damn funny.

Not so much from the proggy left. But like my original statement said, they have no sense of humor because politics is their religion, and politics is very serious.

Just like you won't find a fundy christian or muslim with a sense of humor.

same here. i've unregistered myself from the republicans officially. i'm also not in with Trump at all and probably will not vote for him just like last time.

But alt right is immensely more funny because they have a bigger well to draw from.

A question for the group -

Where does that leave the Christian Conservatives in all of this? Traditionally a goup seeking the moral high ground, stoic and unfunny, however voting in alignment with those we've discussed in this thread.

Odd bedfellows, to be sure.

Being an actual nerd and trying to talk to these people about scifi or fantasy is infuriating. You see someone dressed as some character or hear someone talking about how they love so and so series, yet when you try to engage them about anything more in depth than the general storyline you get met with blank faces or a look of smugness and "whoa man don't take it so seriously." As soon as the next "popular thing" comes about they move on and promptly forget the other previous thing ever existed.

One shouldn't meme while angry. It does nothing but create cringeworthy memes.

Liberals are always angry. So their memes are always cringeworthy.

Their self righteousness and anger is up there with the brownshirts, the Stalin era civilian footsoldiers and isis. Those groups wouldn't be able to properly meme either.

Anecdotal evidence (progressives on my FB feed) certainly backs this up. Completely superficial pop culture immersion, with zero depth in any particular topic.

Did you ever think that the left dominates the arts, because only people with average intelligence and no drive for success, would ever willingly choose a degree that led to ------ NOTHING.

Righties are too busy in their engineering and management classes.

I'm sure it is important to understand late 18th century women's expressionism......

And I'm sure it will make great water cooler talk during your lunch break working in the mail room......
