Because its more expensive than all other Winter Olympics combined, and that rich Russians fricked their citizens out of 30 billion dollars in order to do it. The hatred is completely justified.
Maybe he's trying to turn Sochi into a resort that might help the economy. Doubtful.
However, US Citizens have been fricked out of way more money than that by our government and rich. I don't see any media outrage about that.

Here's the Vice Guide to the Sochi Olympics, which explains in detail why its so fricked:, LINK

Well yeah, but 20 B of that went to the Olympics themselves. The rest is bullshite.

I don't think there's been that much maliciously and intentionally taken from American citizens. I don't think they'd be able to get away with it.

Why all the bad press for Russia...?
They are the Eurasia to our Oceania.
We need a common enemy to bring us together in times of war.
War is peace.

We give people of color a pat on the back when they stop hanging each other in the streets. A white culture that doesn't offer a free college education and the finest health care is a travesty.

Name a U.S. citizen a President has had murdered just because that citizen was writing a book exposing atrocities of the government.
Old honest Abe says hello. He may have not killed them, however I wouldn't doubt it, but he sure as shite would lock you up without trial if he felt like it.

Sure, Putin has definite tendencies to be a dictator. I don't think he's in a Hugo Chavez/Stalin/Castro ballpark, but he certainly wants power like that.
He is a dictator on the level with Chavez (but smarter). Neither are on the Stalin/Castro level.
I would suggest this board's love affair with Putin is reflective of their distaste for Obama. Pretty pathetic really.

However, nobody gave any fricks about China, and they're arguably worse. Since when do we really give a shite if they guy isn't out there slaughtering or starving his population?
China, on the other hand, is for the most part "playing ball."
Which do you think is going to get the negative propaganda?

Haven't read much of the thread, but to answer the question:
(1) they are on the wrong side of gay rights issues.
(2) Putin schooled Obama on Syria, and humiliated him by taking in Snowden.
(3) The government still sucks (but not sure the media is too concerned with that).
(4) They're white people, so the media isn't worried about violating the dictates of political correctness.

Comparing Hugo Chavez to Stalin is pretty stupid, FWIW.
Why?
Because one was responsible for tens of millions dying under his regime and the other wasn't? Call me crazy but I think that distinction is obvious.

Not just this, but the announcers are basically cutting our athletes down every chance they get on Russian TV and there is an anti Americanism undercurrent that's built up to for the past 6-8 years.

If you were them, would you like us? Nto saying they're right or anything, but I can understand their sentiment.
Really?
I don't ever remember any US announcers hoping a Russian gymnast would break their leg? The US doesn't say that about anyone's athletes during the Olympics. Even the athletes from countries with hostile relations with the US. This is more about Russian culture and Putins propaganda machine.
I could see Bob Costas saying "the Russian women's alpine team look like a bunch of vodka drinking sluts".

there's no love affair with Putin on this board. That's laughable.
People have pointed out how Putin schooled Obama on Syria, for example, but that's simply a fact. That doesn't mean anybody likes Putin.
I'd say the unwillingness some here have to acknowledging that Obama is an empty suit is much more prevalent.

Putin is outside of the Cathedral on several issues.
Therefore he must be demonized.
Probably the biggest wrong he's done is revitalize the Orthodox Church in Russia.

Putin is an a-hole who rules by corruption and murder.

Both Russia and China have been using their own and other currencies when trading oil for several years.

History of Russia has been one of standing in the way of the one world globalists. Czar in 1862 thwarted French & English coming into US on side of South during Civil War, at the request of Lincoln. Revenge was sworn against Czar and their families, enacted with "Bolshevik" revolution on record financed by US Banksters. Ironically, now, Putin, stands in the way of one of the final linchpins in global banking scheme. Fake war in Syria is being stymied by Putin and Russia because Syria is one of their biggest trade partners. Our government on record financing Al Quaeda in Syria to overthrow Assad... a pro democracy leader. Now, anything that can be used against Putin and Russia - i.e., his girlfriend lighting the flame - is being used to discredit him. Schill's like Arsenio, Letterman, et. al, then simply read the jokes each day to discredit Russia directly and Putin indirectly in the mindless chasm that is the American TV viewing public... The bad press is because Russia wants to see something other than the planned collapse of the dollar taking down all other currencies...
