I get that, but Trump won that county by 32%, and it included areas closer to Nashville, which are likely more progressive.
Even if he doesn’t pull of that level, the county should be safely his.
Yeah, I know - I live here. I was just making a point (badly) that the nutjobs are motivated and out voting.
Anyways - what won this thing was that Republican oppo campaign finally showed up in the last 10 days and publicized who Aftyn Bahn really is, in her own words.
Hopefully the Democrats think tonight was somehow a victory - which is possible given how fricking idiotic they have become - and think that running Aftyn Behn types across the South and Midwest might somehow work.

38% of Franklin voted for this dumb whore. This place is changing for the worse.

The fact that they only got 38% in a special election is a damn good sign.

Sadly, your are right. It is an infection. You can see the change in local government.

The fact that this race is so close is not a good sign at all for our future in this country. It is truly frightening that this many people drive to a polling place & press the lever to vote for this woman.
She had as close to a perfect storm as a D could hope for in that district.
6 months ago, the majority of people in that district couldn’t tell you who Van Epps was. She had name recognition being a sitting member of the state house. You also have a D base who feels cornered and would’ve voted for a cat that ran as a D versus an R base who despite the hand wringing, is pretty content.
She also had nothing to lose. She can now safely go back to her state house seat. I highly doubt she runs for this seat again. She would have to relinquish the house seat that she can stay in for as long as she wishes.
Van Epps will now run as an incumbent. Unless you are epically bad, that works in your favor. Plus, the governors seat will be open. Marsha Blackburn will face some minor competition from John Rose, but in the general, you won’t have as many R’s stay home. This seat is a 12-15 point margin next November.

Because Trump has gone so far off the crazy end of the spectrum instead of focusing on the issues he was elected on.

I agree.
I will just say that Behn had name recognition with activist Democrats not the public at large. The fact that this was a special election aided that. I and others were sounding the alarm on this a while back. And our fears were coming true 3 weeks before the election when person after person you talked to had no idea there was an election - much less that this Behn girl was nutso. Luckily, the Republican oppo campaign kicked into gear just soon enough.
It is also worth noting that Behn got 41,000 fewer votes than the disgraced former mayor of Nashville did in the same district 13 months ago (she was forced to resign after having an affair on the public dime with the head of her security detail provided by the police department). I am not sure this is the "victory" some Democrats are acting like.

Libs came out in force for her near Nashville.

Nashville is cooked. Total liberal shithole. Combo of bad weather, off cycle election, and timely ballot dumps only reason this thing ever looked close. Dems had to ballot harvest this one hard just to get an inch under a 10 point loss.

What would’ve been a more acceptable percentage?

I’m shocked the “Cemetary Sweetheart” Megan Barry had to courage to run for office again after that fiasco. The fact that she got around 130,000 votes shocked me. More shocking was that her cuck of a husband stayed with her after that. It’s no wonder her son decided to go the way he did.

The numbers are in and it’s concerning.

I live here too. Glad she lost, and I agree with your last thought.

Less than 20%. Too many rich entitled SSRI addicted liberal women addicted to SSRI’s and benzodiazepines here. We need to be careful. They are like bedbugs.

There is still something unsettling about these progressives finding a following. Democrats have no desire to choose a moderate person. They are all hard left. That is I'm assuming from the descriptions, this woman was a Bernie Sanders type. So there is something going on in the city limits of major cities where the residents are just different from those out in the suburbs and country. I will assume Van Epps will be reelected as an incumbent by 15 percentage points. But that is a loss of 7% of traditional R voters. And if we cascade down through the races it may cost some republicans who don't have near the 22 point advantage which then turns to 9 in this district. Young republicans need to step forward with whatever their vision is going forward. We could use the enthusiasm. Because a lot of young people need to vote for republicans.
