Yeah that's where Im at on it...corps can exert will both directly/unilaterally with sometimes little or no direct checks or balance, sas well as indirectly through govt/Congress.

That's why I brought up Zuckerberg requesting to be regulated. He knows he already has unilateral power when it comes to the platform. Imagine how powerful he would be with the backing of the government.

Corporations have been fully infiltrated
A large segment of their executive base doesn’t give a frick about the bottom line

but are most of the threats to liberties originated by govt, or set into motion by corporate will/influence?
Without government protectionism, uber powerful corporations would never exist.
I can opt out of doing business with entity X, I cannot opt out of doing business with government who can arrest me

Gov in bed with corporations.

Powerful corporations like Sears, GM, and Prodigy are so omnipotent that they will live forever and dominate the marketplace and our lives. Definitely not the guys who can legally use force against you.
The fact that this is a question is telling. Only a people who have had it so relatively good in terms of limited government could even ask such a question. Those who remember Nazi Germany, Pol Pott, etc. would not point to those who brought us I phones as s the biggest threat to liberty.

We are living in strange times. The constitution expressly limits the powers of the federal government. Unfettered merger and acquisition activity over the past few decades has pushed the economy to the point of imbalance where there are too many monopolies and oligopolies. So at the present moment in time, corporations are.

Tucker had a segment on this the other day. He had a guest on to discuss banks and other big companies denying service based on political opinions. His liberal guest suggested right wing companies do this. The ones he cited? Chickfila and Hobby Lobby. He thinks those are equal to Bank of America and Twitter.

None of those companies controlled public discourse or were subservient to the intelligence community

It’s a different version of what has happened to the FBI/DOJ

corporations now have the power to wipe you off the face of the earth by ruining your livelihood.
The government can nuke them, pull their business license, seize their assets, etc....
The government. Absolutely no doubt.

You're tying to use logic. Don't do that.

Just wait until Facbook, Snapchat, google start weaponizing user history on behalf of the Democrats. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s just starting to happen. I think we are reaching the tip of the iceberg of what these companies are capable of

That protectionism is likely there at corps' behest. Definitely a important point to consider tho.

No doubt, govt takes the cake on physical liberty. An instance where the two are combined, in theory, is a local police traffic ticket revenue program a la Louisiana's LACE program. Govt's in it mainly to make revenue and if you dont pay up...jail time.

They haven't but these morons don't have any pertinent examples

How GE or any of the big federal contractors who were more connected the military industrial complex than today’s tech giants? Public discourse? At one time there were three channels and many newspapers and radio stations were owned by conglomerates. Government is the bigger threat to liberty all day, every day.

It's going to be an interesting debate. It's a private company "enforcing" their policies, but they also lobby the govt for power to prevent alternatives to their products.
