CNN: “this would be a victory for Trump, so for the betterment of the country and against all standards of journalism, we are calling for these documents to remain sealed.”

They'd have to acknowledge it exists first. So...don't expect that to happen.

"We need to keep our investigation into Russian subversion classified! This is all a trick by the Russians, don't fall for it and let the Russians win."

That will be their argument if I had to guess.

Does Congress typically release sensitive law enforcement information regarding ongoing FBI investigations?

Not to mention Top Secret classification.

Do you know what Morning Melt opened with this AM? They were dry humping each other over a poll from Germany that showed Trump has the worst favorability of any US president in modern times. That's how bad it's gotten for Joe Cuckborough and Mika Sleazinski, tapping into Germany's hate for Trump.

Using your logic, the government could (and probably does) label anything embarrassing or illegal "top secret", thus becoming out of reach to the very people who elect those in power.

Chris Cuomo.

"What is contained in this memo is classified information. It's illegal for you peasants to see them, so you should just depend on us at CNN to read it and explain it to you."

No they can't. All they can do is "release" it from their end. The president, someone he's delegated authority to within the executive branch, or the (probably several) OCAs of the information would have to declassify it.
