The Britts had an equal hand in that too
Yeah. Iran nationalizing it's oil and taking it away from BP(called today) was probably what set it all in motion.
The British government owned the majority of BP.
The contract was near the end, but Iran didn't really have the right. Still, overthrowing their government and installing a dictator isn't the right response either.

They took hostage the principal of our high school TAS, who was trying to gather school records before evacuating

I remember the failed rescue attempt.
Rotor wash creating blinding conditions.
Massive amounts of blowing sand being ingested into the engines.
Bodies and assorted body parts laying about.
Iranians desecrating the bodies.
My 15 year old self being both very sad and very angry.
Wondering how Carter thought that was a good idea.
Seeing "Put a Hola in the Ayatollah" posters, T-shirts and bumper stickers.

No one wants to face the uncomfortable truth that most of our foreign policy problems are our own doing
well in the case of iran it was the carter administration horrible decision to allow the the shah to be deposed and return khomeini to iran and pressured the iranian military to abandon the shah.
we've been paying for that horrible mistake and i was a freshman in college then.

EZVictor…. Thanks for an inside look at what went on in Iran during that time.
Those were crazy times..as were the days of the oil crisis.
