Savage.

I don't use this word all that often, but this is unassailable.

I really like Whitlock, but I think he misunderstands what nonbelievers truly think. As an atheist, I don't fear death at all. In fact, assuming that this life is the only one I'll have, the only consciousness I'll ever get, makes me appreciate it even more so, I think, than if I thought this life was temporary.*

FWIW, I think he's absolutely correct in regards to not living in fear. A movie most might not have seen or remember from 1990 with Albert Brooks is called Defending Your Life. In a nutshell, he dies and has to "defend" his actions, but it's set up like a court room. It's all about getting over your fears, and once you do you can move on. Not sure why, but as a 20 year old that message resonated with me. Great movie...

* This is not bait for an argument or discussion about religion of afterlife. Just wanted to refute Whit's assumption that to be an atheist meant you lived in fear of death.

“We serve death, not life. We value the old more than the young, the people nearest death over the ones just starting their journey. We used to sacrifice our lives to leave the next generation a better world. We’ve lost that resolve.“

This is great

I've only recently started reading Whitlock and I'm now a regular.

Brilliant at times.

His article on LeBron, Wealth of Nations and the importance of Competition was excellent insight and this article continues my growing fandom of the author.

Not one word of that can be refuted. That was great! We're so scared of death we're not living.

Whitlock was one of the people I used to enjoy reading on ESPN's Page 2 back in the day. I knew he went to FS1, but they have just as many jabberheads as ESPN. Glad he ended up as a contributor at Outkick because his stuff is always well thought out.

I've been saying this.

No government or government program can guarantee a risk free life.

That doesn't exist in reality.

But these idiot utopians are running around thinking that it's possible.

I said it a lot before corona and I've said it a ton since. We have become a society that refuses to accept that death is a part of life. We're seeing it up close. Good read.

Perhaps, but an atheist would be more inclined to take drastic steps to prolong this life more than a Christian would.

atheists on their deathbed tend to be terrified,
while religious people tend to be calm

What a sentence! Today, our local school system made the announcement that in-person school would remain shut down until at least October. I was reminded during the announcement that teachers are mandatory reporters...it is a big part of their job. They haven't had anything to report since mid-March. Children in abusive situations have no advocates right now...but that's been deemed a necessary cost to keep them from getting a disease that their bodies can easily defeat.

Whitlock was not this way at all when he worked for KC Star and had his sports radio show....he wasn't a complete leftist loon but he was more SJW than conservative. He's matured a lot the past 10 years. Whitlock was on Levin's show last week and he impressed Levin and that's not real easy.
