Being white and a nationalist is a little different than being a 'white nationalist'. One is just nationalism and the other implies ethnic nationalism.

"White nationalism" is a form of ethno-nationalism, which is specifically based around racial and ethnic identity politics. This is distinct from just "nationalism" which is not inherently based around racial or ethnic identity.
When someone says they are a white nationalist, they are saying that they believe that their country's national identity should be based on white ethnicity.
That's very different from being a white person who is a nationalist (meaning the version of nationalism that does not espouse ethno-nationalism).
