The Trump administration urged the Supreme Court yesterday to rule against public sector unions in a case involving whether government employees can be forced to financially support labor groups.

In a friend of the court brief for the case Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the White House argued that the practice violated individual union members' First Amendment rights and should be abolished.

The case asks whether Mark Janus, an Illinois state government employee, can be forced to regularly pay a "security fee" to his workplace's union as a condition of employment. The outcome is of major significance to the labor movement, about half of which — an estimated seven million people — works in a public sector job. Undermining the precedent the allows unions to demand regular payment from those workers could be a crippling financial blow.

Could be another big win coming in june.

Yeah the local public employee unions have already conceded defeat. They're getting people to sign agreements to where they'll keep paying dues

completely agree, how in the hell is a union able to force a single individual to pay 'their' fees when he/she is not part of their union...its bullshite.

I like some things unions do but they do/say/policy some stupid shite sometimes.

The thing about this is that Unions do good things for their members that are good for all of the employees of some place.

This just allows people to freeload.

Or, it stops union leaders from extracting funds from non-consenting employees to fatten their coffers.

They are not fattening their coffers, they are working to defend the working man.

Sometimes, I can't tell if you are naive or just trolling.

Freeload on what? Those individuals didn't ask for the union help. The fact that they benefitted from someone else's actions without asking for said action is irrelevant.

You can't perform a job that helps me and then charge me without asking for my consent.

What sort of fricked up world is that?

Apply your mindset to medicine or any other field.

The point is they have people standing up for them and they want to freeload (not pay).

In what ways do they stand up for them?

They never ASKED them to stand up for them.

You can't just demand that someone pay you for a job that benefited you if you never agreed in the first place.

Seriously, do you not see the problem with that?

Can I go cut your grass without asking you and then demand that you pay me?

Well I don't see any other way to accomplish payment for services.

Maybe something like a voluntary association that only extends services to due paying members?

But they will get something done like overtime pay at 50 percent extra that will benefit the cretins that don't pay too.

Many people get their health insurance and retirement through the union.

If a person doesn’t want to pay the dues they shouldn’t have to. They can get insurance in the market and put money in their own IRA.

It would be better to pay the dues and get both, but if they choose not to pay dues don’t expect the benefits of being in a union.

They didn't consent to the services in the first place.

Im going to go cut your lawn and then demand that you pay me $10,000 afterwards.

In your world, you have to pay me.
