Thanks. It's a big jump in pay for me so making the payments won't be an issue. It's just the notion of paying such a small percentage to the principal that's frustrating. The 10K helps but having a graduate degree (which I had to have for licensure) is a nice chunk of change.

I don't have any real debt other than our mortgage and approximately $1,000.00 on the credit card, do you realize the sheer amount of people that take out loans from banks or incur credit card debt that do not pay the principal back in full? They negotiate deals and work certain things out.

I was trying to get clarification on your second question, but being you've abandoned it, apparently:
I believe the progressive left has shifted hard left economically and has become utterly schizophrenic on the authoritarian axis (more libertarian on things like drugs; more authoritarian on things like speech). The Democratic party as an institution has shifted moderately left economically and moderately up on the authoritarian axis.
