If God were not perfect, He would not be God at all, because to be God is to be perfect in all His attributes.

The most vocal “Catholic” politicians very obviously don’t practice their faith in any meaningful way. I doubt he or Pelosi went to mass yesterday, a holy day of obligation. Good thing we have much better Catholic role models, like Jesus and all the saints.

I just find it strange the left voted for an old white catholic and the top cop of California.

They hate cops and religion.

The word yarek, which we translate as thigh in this passage, has a wide semantic domain: side, hip, thigh. In a few instances, it can be understood as a euphemism for “loins”

Yes

quote:

but it’s only used in reference to men.

No

quote:

I am well aware of euphemisms in the Hebrew Bible.

I don’t think you are, which is why I’m explaining this to you.

quote:

Your interpretations are shoddy, though, since you seem to only be able to infer sexual innuendos when you read the passages.

Your analysis of my interpretation is faulty. And I will infer sexual innuendos when they are clearly present.

quote:

Even if yarek means “womb” in this passage

It doesn’t. “beten” is “womb”. Check your Hebrew. The “beten” swells and the “yarek” rots.

quote:

Again, there is no mention of pregnancy in this passage.

The god-given instructions in Numbers 5 is for a man who is married (the marriage exists when the man “knows” the woman for the first time). He then suspects she has cheated but doesn’t know for sure and has no evidence and no witnesses. They have to get a priest to make a magic (poisoned) potion for the woman to drink. Gee, I wonder what would give the man reason to suspect she has cheated? Could it be because she is pregnant? If she is guilty and she drinks the potion and her womb rots and she can no longer have children, how the hell are these people going to know the results of the potion? Something has got to come out. The “thigh” falling away is the dead baby coming out as a miscarriage that they can witness.

Go ahead and lie to yourself and delude yourself because your perfect and just LORD endorses ritual abortion.

Sorry that simply posted biblical scripture makes your god look like a depraved a-hole.

Here we go again with your vicious circular fallacious objective moral standard which can only exist if god exists, and because he exists, we know there is an objective moral standard.

Try to answer this one: is it objectively morally wrong to kill babies?

There could be numerous reasons. The key phrase is that the man has NO detection or evidence of adultery. Pregnancy is some strong evidence.

The “thigh” falling away is the dead baby coming out as a miscarriage that they can witness.

Somehow, your interpretations get worse by the minute.

I’ll ask a third time: where is pregnancy mentioned in this passage?

Conjecture is not evidence.

I asked three times where pregnancy is mentioned. You only provided conjecture and loose interpretation.

For the record “yarek” never means child or baby.

You are not to be taken seriously.

But you're not. You're, again, giving your anti-God interpretation using partial truths to paint a different picture than what the Bible, itself paints. That's called deception.

quote:

That include those Midianite and Canaanite babies?
That includes all human beings, including you. You are guilty of breaking God's law and you will be condemned by Him for it unless you stop pursuing your own lusts and autonomy and submit by faith to the Lord and King, Jesus Christ.

quote:

You still don’t understand. I’m not making accusations against “God”.
Every post of yours is essentially a recapitulation of Satan's "has God really said...?"

quote:

Sorry you don't understand your own position well enough to defend it. It's the inevitable conclusion of someone who has no rational position to stand on. Again, maybe one day you'll figure that out.

quote:

Try to answer this one: is it objectively morally wrong to kill babies?
It's objectively morally wrong for one human to unjustly take the life of another human being, regardless of their age.

They didn’t write in English. You won’t find the word “pregnancy” in a 2500 year old Semitic document.

quote:

For the record “yarek” never means child or baby

It does in this one instance at least.

quote:

You are not to be taken seriously.

Did you actually read numbers chapter 5? I don’t think you did. Or at least you have difficulty understanding the meaning. It’s there for you in plain English “miscarry” in the NIV which means an unborn baby dead and popped out too early. For a dead baby to come out, the woman would have to first be pregnant.

Read numbers 5 again and ask yourself - HOW will the husband and the priests know if the woman is guilty. If the woman is not already pregnant, then there is no point for the magic potion and no point for the story.

You are either deluding yourself, or a liar, or mentally incompetent if you cannot grasp that.

Oh... okay.

It does in this one instant because that's what you need it to mean to continue your twisted misinterpretation of Scripture which you quite clearly do not have the slightest inkling of either understanding or comprehension.
