Which would trouble the Independent voter more?

When these independent/moderate voters go into the booth to cast their vote, what will move them the most?

Traditionally it has been the economy. But I think we all can agree this year is anything but normal.

Trump's base will be out in force, enthusiasm is off the charts.

The woke democrats hate Trump with the heat of a 1000 suns. They will trample over each other to vote against him. However, they do not love their own candidate. Be interesting to see how that affects their turnout.

So what will animate the independents? Is it the economy? Or is it the Coronavirus response?

I personally think all the BLM, cancel culture, and hate whitey bullshite outweighs the economy and virus. Those issues will pass eventually.

However, the removal of our history and the destruction of western civilization is forever.

Look at this board. Every few minutes another thread pops up about the left's bullshite. This is unprecedented in our history. I stay informed but I cannot keep up with all their attacks. They are non stop.

I think the Middle sides with Trump at the end of the day. Not because they like him or approve of his job performance. But because the alternative is the end of the world they have known their entire lives.

80 percent of the American populace is completely unaware of most of the issues that drive politically-active people (like this board) into apoplexy.

They ARE aware of COVID and the economy.

And being called racist. If they watch tv of any kind, you now see it in ads by the networks themselves promoting that conversation. Saw it myself on CBS just last night.

You're seriously believe that people aren't every bit as aware of the protesting, looting, and taking down of statues? The constant references to race relations?

Both extremes use the “culture war” to rile up their respective bases. Most people in the middle care about the economy over everything else.

This. They may not like Trump, but the alternative is terrifying.

This goes way beyond the culture war of years past. That was about abortion, guns, and gay marriage.

Today's culture war is about socialism vs capitalism, erasing history, and disrupting people's daily lives.

The left is tearing down the basic fundamentals that make our society work.

There are many people on both sides that truly feel like this... and they both need to take a big step back. Remember all of the people saying that Trump would literally get us involved in a nuclear war, or people that predicted the US would cease to exist by the end of Obama’s first term when he was elected? How is someone who has been part of the machine in Washington for 40 years and was Vice President for 8 years getting elected going to “end the world as we know it”?

I think many of us in the middle are probably just staying home this November.

“Who am I supposed to vote for? The Democrat who is going to blast me in the arse? Or the Republican who's blasting my arse.”

All people talked about when Obama was running was that he was a “socialist.” This is not anything new. Also tearing down confederate statues is not “erasing history” it’s just an attempt to stop the celebration of people who they feel don’t align with today’s values. The left and people in favor of taking down statues don’t want to erase Robert E Lee for example from history, they just don’t want him celebrated as a hero.

I don't think anyone in middle America thinks of Joe Biden as a radical.

By now they all know that Trump thrives on chaos.

Between the two, maybe they choose chaos, maybe not. But my impression from associating with people all over the political and social spectrum is that most people are growing tired of Trump's daily drama.

Joe Biden voted for the Iraq war, supported TPP, the drug war, etc. He also doesn’t promote nationalized healthcare, marijuana legalization, criminal justice reform, $15 min wage, free college or anything else that a Bernie Sanders promotes. He is by no means a “radical leftist” and only hardline conservatives see him that way. He is much in the vein of a McCain/Clinton/Bush/Romney.

Independents don't want their cities burned down. They don't want to be surrounded by a mob on the interstate. They don't want the stock market to crash. They don't want freaking socialism. Now what Biden has embraced full Nazism, it should be an easy choice for them.

Well said, and most years, I'd agree completely with you. However, given all the Pro/Anti BLM, Police, etc. that's going on I think even Karen and Ken Numb Nuts will be more aware of what's going on than usual.
