You need to study your history a little more, because you appear to be ignorant of some important facts. The Shah of Iran was installed as a puppet leader by the US and Britain so that they could get more cheap oil. The Shah used his secret police to stay in power and made enemies of the Muslim religious leaders. Those fundamentalist leaders led the overthrow of the government and hated the Western nations for forcing the Shah on them as essentially a dictator.

I think the fundamentalist clerics leading Iran since 1979 are terrible, but the actions we took from 1953 to 1979 led directly to the revolt and the takeover by these leaders.

From my point of view you are advocating that we do again what failed before; decide for Iran who cannot be their leader, and then imagine everything will work out okay.
