Doubt I will get serious answers but in your opinion, if we had invested 7 trillion dollars into the United States instead of the war on terror, how would our country be different?

For instance, if we have a surplus of money.. What projects would the federal government undertake, would healthcare be such as major issue..,would we have light rails between majors cities, would all school children have laptops, etc?

We would have still gone into Iraq without 9/11 under Bush.

You’re kidding yourself if you think the establishment was going to just “pour $7T into the country.”

If no 9/11 and no war, then I promise you, our govt would have found a way to enrich themselves and keep status quo.

If Bill Clinton wasn't a weak arse bitch and went after Osama in 98 after the embassy bombings there might have not been a 9/11.

Social media and self segregation by viewpoint would still divide people, but our country really went to shite after 9/11. It accelerated the split, gave us Obama, and left us considerable debt. Thousands of Americans will suffer lifelong injuries and mental issues for involvement in specific military actions of debatable value (if our plan was right did we really need to spend so many years fighting in Iraq; did we allow Iran to much room to fight us by proxy, etc, etc). People seem to have been crazy ever since.

Accurate, I meant it's capability and intrusion. Those efforts really ramped up after 9/11

I should have said DHS

The scope of government surveillance on its own people would be greatly reduced as would be our footprint in the ME.

Have we ever gone a decade without a conflict? Not sure we are sitting here with no military intervention this century even if 911 didn’t happen

50s Korea
60s and 70s Nam
80s Grenada, Panama
90s Gulf war
——————
00s Afghanistan, Iraq

The better question is: What does the country look like if the US never enters WW1?

Generally agree. Entering the war was a major break in US foreign policy, so it's interesting to consider "what might have been".

If you assume that the Soviet government could grow to scale around the globe, we should all be thankful for interventionist policies.

Regardless of the outcomes of WW1 and WW2 (and their respective fallouts) Islam would remain Islam.

That makes no sense, especially when you consider we're the ones placing the puppet governments around the world...which is why 9/11 happened and why we invaded the ME in the first place.

Without 9/11, i.e. regime change in the Middle East, the Oil Bourse would have been able to grow and threaten the value of the U.S. dollar worldwide. Who knows how that would have changed the oil industry in this country.

The only reason they are not here is because we are there. Influence never stops spreading it just hits stalemates

Being involved in WWII was our stepping stone that we are still benefiting from today. Getting involved in WWI was the stepping stone for WWII

Had we not been involved, someone else’s “Japan and South Korea” are on our doorstep, their navy is patrolling our seas and their air bases hours away. And we are no where to be found in their region

IMO

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m saying if it wasn’t us it would be Russia or China doing the same to us. That’s what the Cold War was. A geopolitical posturing race post WWII. If we are not involved in WWII it’s even easier for whoever would have come out on top

China was behind the 8 ball not really being an industrial power in WWII. Hence being boxed in by the victor of the post war power struggle. Whether by lack of means or by choice if you sit out someone else will always be making moves on the chessboard.

If we cut our military budget in half tomorrow the EU nations’ would shoot up immediately
