When St. George becomes a city it won't exactly be lacking big business

Broome and others like pushing the narrative that St. George will simply be a bunch of neighborhoods that have no way to support itself. Losing the residential tax base is huge but losing the big businesses is Big too. If you actually look at big business in the St. George footprint, its some pretty huge names in the Baton Rouge business world.

Turner Industries
Performance Contractors
MMR
ISC
Cajun Industries
Triad
H&E
Bernhard LLC
Excel Group
Associated Grocers
Lipseys

The great news for BR when St. George leaves is they will have most of the big businesses.

They should be thrilled.

Is there a st George map? When I think of it, I only think of the area from the mall to the river.

Sorry, I’m late to the party... and live in Geismar lol

Will Lipsey's and H & E leave St. George? Their owners have both come out against incorporation. I see Eddie Rispone (ISC) hasn't taken a position. Smart move on his part.

How can he do this? His only option is to move his operation, which used to be downtown near of St. Philip Street and South Boulevard.

If St. George happens, then BR is going to have to get the lost money from somewhere. Either that is from increased taxes on the TAXPAYING residents of BR or increased taxes on the businesses in BR. Eventually, the businesses will leave. See businesses in Jackson, MS moving to Madison Co. MS.

I’d imagine the sales taxes collected will be much greater than expected.

Couldn't he ask BR to annex him? Or is he stuck in St. G?

It's too late for that, unless the St. George vote fails. He should have done this years ago when other parts of the parish were being annexed into the city to thwart St. George. However, expect court challenges for this exact thing.

It depends on how close he is to the border

Thanks, that seems like a relatively small and random geo-footprint to carve out a second city....

Part of the odd cut outs is those people didn't want to be a part of the annex, so they were cut out. The original one was a little bigger and even included more businesses, but was left out to appease BR and those neighborhoods.

It’s not random. It’s the parts that aren’t already part of a city.

Ahh this makes sense. WOnder why he didn't ask years ago to do this since he is so against the idea of St. G.
