No. The guy made a mistake without malicious intent. Don’t let him handle dogs anymore. Demote him or fire him or whatever.

If you’re calling for criminal prosecution for this you need to stop syncing up with your mom’s menstrual cycle and grow a pair.

Happens quite often, it seems. The officer should be charged with murder of an officer, fired, and lose any pension. Too much of this is happening.

I always assumed those K-9 cars were equipped to keep the dog cool automatically.

If the equipment is purchased, installed correctly and is utilized, they do.

There are heat alarms, cooling fans and emergency contact calls available.

There’s an app that can report equipment malfunctions and failure to test the system at the start of a shift Those reports can be sent to multiple people.

The system requires a manual disabling of an alarm that we set in the K9 compartment so that the officer must open the door ensuring that the K9 has been exited.

I’ll see if this department uses the proper equipment. The equipment is expensive so some communities start charities to help with the costs.

I’ve never known a K9 officer that does not love his dog even if it’s a crazy male Belgian Malinois.

Junction City is a small city of 22,000. Based on that I would guess they didn’t have the proper safety equipment in the vehicle.

If that’s true though, it looks even worse for the officer.

I would think the death penalty would be
on the table.

I challenge you to shoot a K-9 to death.

Then ask for a slap on the wrist.

Are you seriously incapable of seeing the difference between shooting a K9 dog and accidentally leaving one in a car?

Truthfully, yes. Even with something like play if a dog has heat exhaustion, and you continue to play they will go until death often times just to please. Dogs are the only animal on the planet that chose to be domesticated themselves. They will quite literally work themselves to death for their humans

There's definitely a difference there.

Shoot a k9 because you were afraid it was about to attack you and compare your outcome to a cop who does the same.

Why do you keep talk about people shooting dogs?

That’s not what happened here

think so. I think people can be charged with shooting/attacking a police canine. Maybe that is a state by state thing..

If it was a civilian, any act against a K9 is treated as a crime against LEO.
In this particular case it's will be an internal matter, handled by those with authority in the police department.that it happened in.
I don't know whether a prosecutor could get involved or not.

As for the case, I know nothing about what happened. So while I do find it disappointing that this happened to such a smart and loyal animal, I can't judge because I don't know the circumstances.

You are misunderstanding me. I have
had hunting dogs all of my life.

I take them most everywhere I go in my truck.

I leave the truck running with the AC on when I leave them alone.

I also check on them every 10 minutes no matter what I’m doing.

It’s just a dog. My dog.

If one dies I WILL go to jail.

If a K-9 is killed by a civilian he will
be facing the death penalty.

A dog is not as important as a person but
the rules are set in stone.

If a cop kills K-9 it is ludicrous to think
he won’t face serious charges.

How would you possibly go to jail for that?

Correct, but not for LEO. Think about that.

I would encourage anybody who wants to learn about the attitudes of LE to frequent online forums where there are a lot of cops. You'll find out what most of them really think about you.

The point is that it doesn't really matter if it's shooting a dog or leaving one in a car. Cops can do either and they won't face the same consequences you would.

I bet if I accidentally left my dog in my car on accident tomorrow I would face absolutely zero charges.
