Francis was a socialist political leader, not a religious leader.

Just say that you don't understand the Catholic faith, or don't say anything at all.

No, I'm not a Catholic.

However, I know for a fact your Pope is not now, nor has never been infallible.

Again, you just don't understand. Papal infallibility does not mean he's never wrong. It means he's never wrong on matters concerning the doctrine of he faith. Despite the left leaning stances of Francis, he never once faltered on the doctrine of the Church.

No Pope that I know of made statements like this Lutheran Pastor made. Sure, some Pope's have said some secular policy things that seem Leftist, but, nothing as weird as this Pastor.

Anyway, the last time any Pope did anything "Infallible" was back in November of 1950. Are you complaining about something a Pope did back in 1950?

Not a dogma, but the Catholic Catechism has changed course on the death penalty.

Jesus praised John the Baptist. Was baptized by him. I suggest this so-called pastor read the gospel and what Jesus said about John.

11 Jesus then said, ‘I tell you this: John the Baptist is greater than any person who has ever lived until now.

The Lutheran Church prospered under the buildout of little Minnidishu -- I'd like to know the final total the churches in that area were given to initially seed the destruction of an American City.

The Death Penalty has always been controversial within the Catholic Church. I'm sure that it's controversial within the Protestant sects, also.

Does Jesus want man-made fallible Governments to put people to death by execution? I'm for the Death Penalty, personally, but, it's a controversial topic.

Then this fact is not really relevant to a conversation concerning Dogma, right?

It has only become controversial within Protestantism within more liberal denominations within the last maybe 50 years. It isn’t very controversial at all in conservative ones.

Historically, it has been rejected by some smaller sects like the Mennonites and Quakers, who were/are pacifists, but the death penalty has been historically accepted within most Protestant denominations.

Jesus accepted the authority of Pontius Pilate to use the death penalty and never condemned the death penalty as an option for civil justice. Paul also accepted its usage, so I think the burden is more on those who oppose it to show that it is unlawful in itself, as the Scriptures teach its usage in the theocracy of Israel and even in the New Testament for the civil magistrate under Roman rule.

Dogma? No, not very relevant.

What is relevant is that even doctrine must be adhered to by Roman Catholics. Dogma is necessary for salvation, but doctrine is still binding, and doctrine has changed on this subject, primarily due to the directive of Pope Francis in 2018 when he authorized a change in the catechism from the permissibility of capital punishment to it being morally inadmissible.

As someone who frequently cites the Catholic Catechism, you should realize the importance of such a change, based on the authority of the Pope. Therefore, to downplay his infallibility doesn’t really do justice to the real and binding nature of his authority.

Here is the speech referred to in Matthew 3:7-12

quote:

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

You know there are many other Protestants that also condemn what these Lutherans are doing, right?

A cursory skimming of the gospels and Paul’s epistles and letters will yield dozens of commandments that all 21st century American churches flat out ignore.

Unless people are quibbling over “dozens” of commandments I don’t know why you got downvotes for writing that.

Maybe people who disregard St. Paul’s instructions vis a vis head coverings?
