Liberals keep saying it's the AR-15 but I'd bet the pistol is used far more often.

what do people even use ar 15 for?

Depends on how you manipulate the definition of mass shooting

Well the common denominator in the most notorious ones have been AR style weapons. There is really no disputing it.

Protecting oneself from tyranny and hunting certain delicious and/or dangerous animals

Because it was the weapon of choice for 3 of the top 5 mass shooting bodycounts.

Are people really worried about the former? Also hunting with ar 15 ruins the sport

You should be. Historically all governments turn on their people at some point.
Obama already turned the IRS on his enemies.

How do you live with such unrealistic fear? This is too much tinfoil hat for me.

It’s just a semi-automatic rifle; no different than a semi-auto hunting rifle or pistol.
It’s popular for the same reason a mechanic loves old muscle cars: easy to work on and customize.
Those who enjoy shooting as a hobby tend to like AR-15s for that reason.

I dont. Im pretty sure it wont happen in my lifetime.
And a well armed populace makes it even less likely to happen.

Semi-automatic firearms.

If we use their loose definition of "mass shooting", then handguns are used almost exclusively in mass shootings.
