Is it because they can’t let Trump have a “win”?

Is not allowing a “win” more important than securing a border?

Their grandstanding is ridiculously pathetic and shows their true colors if that is the true reasoning.

Of course.

This is identity politics. You can't give an inch. There are no shared interests. frick the best interests of the country.

Because their Hollywood cronies won't have a cheap supply of untraceable pre-teens to diddle between takes anymore, if that other thread is to be believed.

It’s amazing that they try to pin this on trump when any sane person would like the border secured. That argument doesn’t work for them.

Because they know it's a terribly important victory for Trump, so if they're going to cave on it, they're going to make sure they get quite a bit more than some continuing resolution in exchange.

That seems like a very irrational position to take when it comes to doing what’s best for the country

There's border security funding in the CR bill that passed the Senate with every Dem vote.

I know facts are hard for y'all.

Of course it is, but when you run on a platform that you're going to stop all of Trump's policies, what do you really expect?

Border secured doesn't = wall

There's more support among Americans for DACA than a wall, so why wouldn't democrats at least try to get what they want at the same time?

It's politics 101

Democrat’s Shutting The Gov Down

According to your own president, the Democrats DIDN'T shut the government down:

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

He could NOT have used clearer language. Why is this so hard for you people to understand?

What's the true reasoning Trump shut down the government over funding for 1/4 of the wall?

Is it his ego? Yes.

Does he want a monument of his presidency? Yes.

Is he a spoiled brat who must have his way? Yes.

He could have taken the $1.5B for border security, hired more border security agents, bought more drones, etc. You know, the things that have been working.

They didn't shut it down.
Your whole post is nonsense.
Trump shut it down.
He bragged its on him.

President Donald Trump signaled Tuesday that he would take responsibility if the government shuts down next week over a fight for border wall funding.
quote:

government shutdown has left President Trump with some unexpected benefits.

Trump is facing a number of ongoing lawsuits, including one that alleges he illegally profits when foreign officials stay at his Washington, D.C., hotel. But Justice Department lawyers representing Trump in the case aren't being paid during the shutdown, so they've sought to freeze its litigation while the shutdown continues, Politico reports.

The ongoing suit says Trump has violated the Constitution's emoluments clause "by maintaining a financial interest in his company’s Washington hotel," per The Washington Post. The clause prohibits government officials from accepting gifts from foreign officials, and the suit says profits from their stays at the hotel could constitute gifts.

DOJ lawyers' next filing in the case isn't due until Jan. 22, but they've already asked the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to delay filings indefinitely. "The Department does not know when funding will be restored by Congress," the lawyers' request says, and they can't work "even on a voluntary basis" in the meantime. The court quickly granted the DOJ's request, Politico reports. Other requests to delay civil government lawsuits, including a suit involving Trump's asylum ban, were also filed Wednesday.

It's not clear when the case will proceed, seeing as the request appears to "extend [deadlines] by the duration of the shutdown once Congress and the president put new funding in place," Politico writes. It's also unclear if Trump will own up to the shutdown like he said he would just two weeks ago.

Your entire post is a bitch fest that proves exactly the point of my thread. You would rather the Democrats shut down the government than have a more secure border.

Y’all don’t believe anything trump ever says unless you now agree with him or you can spin it to make him look bad.

That dog won’t hunt now. You either believe what he says or you don’t. You can’t pick and choose.

Senate Republicans didn't seem to think so, since they all voted in favor of it.
