They absolutely love Trump if they saw what Democrats have done to our country. They would have added an amendment that once a decade make the walls 1’ higher.

Horrified.

Anyone who can’t see that is lying to themself or doesn’t understand anything at all about what America is about.

Most of our constitution is about limiting power of the federal govt and any branch or it, especially the executive.

You may like the idea of trump subverting the democratic process in the name of revenge or expediency, but no real conservative can like this in principal.

I have read shelves full of books on Jefferson. He is my favorite president, by far. I think it is wrong to call him a hypocrite but he certainly did hold views that would seem (on first glance) to be somewhat inconsistent. In his worldview, however, they were entirely consistent. He was a man of his place and time.

Same guys who started a country based on freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, and one nation under God?

They’d be closer to Trump than every bit of conservative fiber in Obama, Hilary, an Bernie’s body combined.

I would think that they had their share of them and the results are that they did a damn good job of handling them. I'd suggest that you spend more time reading about the founding of this republic than watching CNN.

For the OP: national emergency or not... One of the ENUMERATED POWERS of the Federal Government is to protect its borders and citizens from foreign invasion. So, they would be fine with the wall. They would have skewered congresses for years on it taking this long though.

I would hope they would be allowed to use actual common sense therefore eliminating such emergencies before they become a problem.

Of course Jefferson would think he’s being consistent, and he did think so. His political philosophy really didn’t mesh with his actions as President. The man believed government should be its strongest at, what, a 10 mile radius? Yet he fought hard for and achieved the Louisiana Purchase. He was one of the few founding fathers I think to keep his slaves even though he didn’t actually care for the institution of it (or really the rational for enslaving black people). The Barbary Wars. He was a great President, but if you can’t see the inconsistencies with his political philosophy and the actions he took in office, I don’t know what to tell you.
