The term "conspiracy theory" was coined by the CIA after the Kennedy assassination. We now know the CIA killed Kennedy...so internalize that

“Conspiracy theory” is now just a word people use to demonize opposing political or social viewpoints.
The Clintons butt rape children and drink their blood doesn't qualify as an opposing political or social viewpoint.

Will Storr write a book about it called Heritic. I haven’t read it, but have read his latest book the status game. It talked much about the psychology you are mentioning. It’s great, he is a good science communicator and writer.

What's a legit conspiracy theory to you?
Do you need to go look at Reddit and see what is approved?

Lol well that’s exactly what your opponents believe too. So we’ve established that pretty much no one gives much weight to the government narrative, and also that pretty much everyone has his own opinion of what happened or is happening with a given thing.
Yeah that puts everyone in the same boat. So what are y’all bickering about again? Everybody has more smarts than the next guy. I’d back out of that silly exercise.

those are good ones. Related to the existential/group-identity function is a political function to rally relatively disempowered people, explain to themselves why they're struggling, and bind them together against a common opponent (if it's democratic politics) or enemy.

This has been proven to be false. The term originated around the 1800s.

Discernment. The real question is why people like yourself shite on it!?

Rog, it's not about being "legit"
It's about a spectrum from plausible to unimaginably stupid, with a divergent spectrum of intentional disinfo
