Wanting to know the truth

It's also top 5 (mine would replace SPF's #3 & #4 with COVID CT's and Russian collusion CT's).
I don't think CT's are a priori questionable epistemically, though. Another term that hasn't been used in this thread, though the idea generally has, is the idea of "conspiracy panics", episodes of intense public concern or anxiety over perceived threats to social order or stability. The threats can be real or imagined, and they often involve allegations of secret plots or schemes by powerful individuals or organizations to manipulate or control events in nefarious ways in the ways we've been discussing.
Conspiracy panics often emerge in response to perceived crises or crises of legitimacy, such as times of political upheaval or social unrest. They can also be fueled by the spread of misinfo/disinfo through social media and journalism tends to contribute to these panics.
I got caught up as can any of us, really.

Naw
I'm telling all the "free thinkers" they're multiple decades late and that they're likely hypocrites for supporting the same policies for an "other" and only developing a disdain because an in-group member found himself opposed to the police state.
Like usual, I don't and didn't have to make any changes in my beliefs

This is more of the manufactured talking points variety and not an organic/real CT

Convictions about pseudo-scientific ideas have a natural link to CT's.
If you're committed to ideas like flat-earth or young-earth creationism, you have a lot of work to do to justify to yourself/others how it's true given satellite photos & the fossil record and myriad other scientific evidence suggesting better theories and in the face of mounting evidence, you ultimately you generally have to resort to massive CT's alleging all seemingly overwhelming scientific evidence against your theory is manufactured.
BRAVO, Doc!! It's almost as though you pinged me (if TD had a Ping List feature.)
Atta boy! (I'll not doubt make your day by being "flushed out" by you
Let's cut to the chase:
YES, let's all agree that these kinds of people are NUTS! Who do they think they are researching and challenging established science and history? Our institutions and Controllers are to be TRUSTED! How dare the CT'ers actually check, re-check, and circumvent all alleged "settled" science, "settled" history, and "settled" WHATEVER.
I admire your position -- it takes great faith -- deeply religious in fact -- to believe *without question* all tPTB institutional narratives, stories, accounts, history and institutional dogma ARE NOT at least partially tampered with, revised, nor dishonest. (Especially in the year 2022.)
Do you really believe tControllers and Overlords *just* began lying *only* in recent years -- only rarely, only on very select topics?

I think your distinction here is interesting. Is it based on who created the theory or who uses it?
The Russians didn't create the biolabs in Ukraine CT, but they used it. Which category would it fall in.

We should all be like you and wait for the Gubment to tell us what really happened.
That way we're never wrong.

Most fall into two categories... those who blindly believe everything the government says, and those who distrust everything the government says.
If you distrust everything the government says... then you believe the government lies about every little thing...and ya start believing the extremes. Such as flat earth.
If you trust everything the government says ... then you are susceptible to government lies and you start believing in false realities. Such as trump being a super secret Russian agent.
Imo, the most dangerous are the ones who blindly believe everything the government says. Because the msm and universities prop up every bit of propaganda the government says... making the commoners fall even deeper into the conspiracy theories.
The people who don't trust the government... can't make much of a stink because there're not too many societal pillars that prop those beliefs up.

In philosophy of science, there's an idea of whether a body of research is advancing and generating new knowledge or it isn't and is degenerating. By this theory, chemistry is a science because it continues to bear fruit while alchemy isn't because it failed. Likewise for psychology vs. parapsychology (departments of the latter were in universities until the 70's).
There's an idea in conspiracy-theory studies about "defectability" that's similar. If your CT doesn't really prove out over a long time, it gets smellier and smellier, like an old cheese that's been left out.
That's what young-earth creationism and flat earth are.

Well I think most fall in the middle and sorta believe and sorta doubt, but are afraid to tell the truth.
Image is more important that truth to the very average American.
Most of us realize we're being lied to, but are afraid to say anything because of that dreaded term, Conspiracy theory.
Those who sky scream about conspiracy theories are indeed conspiracy theorist themselves but have no fricking spine..

I'm sure you'll wait for the NYT to tell you when these ideals are finally accepted.
This simple example is basically what defines this "CT" argument / debate.
New York Times = State-Institutional Dogma Flagship of Truth AND its "Ideals"
vs
Those who merely dare challenge the FEMA Camp / Plantation dogma of State-Institutional ideas and established "truth" (at face value, without question)

That's not a conspiracy theory. It may or may not be correct, but it's just an opinion on the geo-political forces that Putin acted on.

Yep, NYT and WaPo are flagships for govt propaganda.
Statists have been programmed to believe propaganda and conspiracy are bad words and commit evil vs "our democracy."

That of course doesn't mean that 100% of what is reported is fiction
And even in instances where they are pimping propaganda it isn't some proof that some alternate hypothesis is correct
