What is the liberal explanation for why college costs have exploded?

Conservatives have their explanation: monumental increase in easy money access and loans incentivizes schools to hike prices

What is the left wing bogeyman here? Can’t blame greedy capitalists since most kids go to state run universities.

The left will tell you that state and federal subsidies to universities have decreased dramatically. In other words, public universities have had funding cut drastically, meaning students have to pay more in tuition.

The truth is, administrative positions/salaries have ballooned, through federal programs like Title IX or student-voted initiatives like life coaching centers, Black Student Unions and Diversity & Inclusion education. Students almost ALWAYS vote to increase their own tuition, then get mad when they incur student debt.

Easy access to guaranteed streams of money via student aid programs is why college costs have exploded.

Show me the last Republican or “conservative” that did anything to squash this problem.

I like how you think that response is a "gotcha." Jindal is a pretty decent example for GOP politicians combatting tyrants in higher education as of late, but it's not really something aptly addressed as a matter of national policy.

As a 28yr old that has 30k in student debt and came from a family that defines middle class, I despise what has become of the educational loan system. I’ve already paid off $10k in my few years post grad. I am not even remotely in the same group as the entirety of my generation. I’m looking forward to paying for every penny of the choice I made and signed off on.

Tuition has sky rocketed in universities because of this arms race of amenities and even athletics. I hate that college is being pushed to ever single fricking person.
I hope a presidential nominee has the balls to cut off the Fed loan program. Grandfather some in as a plan and shut the valve off 3-5yrs later.

Of late? Where was Bobby on this issue when he was governor?

And that’s when you know the actual point hits home, when the grammar nazi has to defend the OP homeland.

Not really, I was just embarrassed for you.

However, I recall a few years ago that politicians wanted to put the clamp on student loans at for-profit institutions (think DeVry), and the lobbyists who rolled out to QUASH the effort were a who's who of Democrat politicians, including former U.S. Sen. John Breaux of Louisiana and people with former ties to the Obama administration, all bankrolled by the Graham family of Washington Post fame (NOT Republican) who owned for-profit educational interests.

Their explanation is that state governments have cut funding to higher education (which is true), but that pales in comparison to price increases.

Aww, look at the condescending man trying to climb on a high horse.

Boy, they were really aiming at the heart of the problem, weren’t they?

Unfortunately it's two-pronged, at the local level and through actual federal subsidization. On the latter category, the GOP has actually tried to angle for reform recently, which I think would slow down the issue but not solve the entire problem.

Since apparently, you can't read, I'll restate the OP. It didn't posit who was causing or solving the college cost explosion. It asked what you think is CAUSING it.

Sheesh.

Well. We're almost done with page 1 and you've still not even attempted to answer the OP.

Perhaps it is you the shed is looking for.

I think that students have over the top expectations for facilities combined with decreased state funding.
