There was no deficit. It's illegal in La to finish with a budget deficit. Secondly, he didn't inherit anything as he was part of the legislature and voted for Jindal's budgets.

Thanks for the info!

That he stands with Trump and isn’t a liberal. That’s why 700,000 people voted for him. Scary, isn’t it?

"Stands with Trump" wasn't one of the bullet points in your link.

I just read the blurb on Edward's site for "criminal justice reform" and it absolutely says nothing specific, except they passed some shite and it was "bipartisan"

Any idea on what that plan is?

He did say something about increasing the minimum wage...that should do it? Shouldn't it?

Maybe that's just his plan to run even more business's out of the state.

Correct. “Don’t just do something, stand there” is frequently good advice for governments.

Every time "We have to do something" escaped John fricking McCain's lips I wanted to jab pencils in my ears.

Fair point. However, I don’t need a manifesto to know JBE is a Communist - i’ve seen what he’s done.

I still don’t know if Eddie is conservative. He’s against the death penalty, bankrolled common core and equivocated on ITEP. He’s big in LABI and they’re a bunch of socialists.

He didn’t need a 50 page policy paper - just enough to show he was a conservative.

I think people on this board throw this word around about the same amount as the leftist throw out racist to describe people on the right.

He has written that he inherited a $2b deficit that he turned into a surplus

I’m so tired of seeing this and people thinking JBE is some kind of economics genius. He raised taxes! A SURPLUS IS NOT A GOOD THING. It just means he’s taking too much of our money. I’m willing to bet that “surplus” shrinks over the next 4 years because he will increase spending. And when the next governor takes over and lowers taxes without cutting spending, we will be right back to being buried in debt. WE HAVE TO CUT SPENDING. Sadly no democrat or republican is willing to do that.

Where do you propose we cut spending?

1. 10% reduction to all state agencies, then reform them all after the cut. Create an incentive program to reward hard work instead of time served. Our local, state, and federal agencies don’t need as many people working there as they do. Go to any one of them and just watch how many people are doing absolutely nothing.

2. Cuts to entitlements. Every time an entitlement program is audited they find numerous people fraudulently using the programs. Audit every single one to let tax payers know that their money is going to those who need it, and fine those who have been abusing them. Most people don’t mind paying some taxes if it’s for the right cause. It’s the fraud that we all see on a day to day basis that people get pissed about. I’m willing to bet that will cut some of the spending.

3. Increase the qualifications for TOPS, and make the program to where you are put on probation after your GPA falls below, say a 2.5, then expulsion from the program if it happens again. If you lose it, you cannot get it again under any circumstances. This will ensure the program is paying for the kids that need it and also the kids that will be successful and not waste it.

4. Cut salaries to all elected officials by 10%, and moving forward, the only way for them to get a raise is if they make cuts to spending double the requested income increase they propose.

5. With pensions being 17% of state spending, cutting the number of state employees as mentioned previously will reduce some of that cost as well.

6. usgovernmentspending.com list our state as having 8% of our spending allocated for “other spending.” Without going into all those worthless programs, I’m sure we can cut that percentage in half, or maybe even 2/3rds.
