That word has been used so much the last year. It is what riots were fighting against last summer, and it is what defines anyone who agrees with Trump if even on some issues.

According to Wikipedia, not the best source, but we need to start somewhere, Fascism is

"a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy"

Considering some have called Biden far Right and AOC Centrist (LINK /), let's leave polarity out of the discussion. IMO, Fascism s a form of government to enforce a set of views, regardless of polarity.

Look at the rest of the rest of Wiki's description.

characterized by dictatorial power: Look at the number of EOs that have been put in place by Biden. EOs circumvent Congress, they are essentially a loophole the executive branch has to bypass an uncooperative Congress. Trump set the stage for this, and his detractors weren't out of line for calling it a path to dictatorship. The longer Biden keeps using EOs to enforce his agenda rather than through legislation in Congress, the more the dictatorship analogy the Trump detractors defined works.

forcible suppression of opposition: Twitter, Facebook, and Google all have strong ties with the current administration. They have all suppressed opposition to Biden, and they also happen to have a monopoly on social media, the most forceful method of communication currently. Further, the militarization of the Capitol is forcible suppression of opposition. The Biden administration will not allow any protests near the seat of power.

strong regimentation of society: If you do not adhere to woke thoughts, you will be canceled. There is a plethora of examples of people losing jobs and being harassed simply for voicing an unpopular thought. This pairs with the suppression of opposition. Fascism cannot succeed without at least some consent of the people, as long as those who consent are loud enough.

strong regimentation of the economy. This is the primary engine of fascism, binding business with government. We have seen where Big Tech binds. After this week, if the Biden admin binds with Wall Street and ignores the Reddit Revolt, IMO we will have crossed the Rubicon, and the country will in fact be fascist with a 21st Century facelift.

Fascism is government tyranny that is disguised by a thin veneer of capitalism (which gives people illusion of choice). Nothing about fascism is “far right”.

Machiavelli was always gifted with buzzwords.

Made him kinda Machiavellian.

You have good descriptors. I feel it has a similar connotation to the USSC view on porn:

quote:

Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart famously said in his 1964 Order that he could not use words to describe pornography but 'I know it when I see it.'

Fascism is when business/industry and government work in concert to control a society.

So, basically what we have now with big tech.

I could have saved myself a thousand words and just typed this.

I'll disagree a little on the far right part. Fascism can be applied to all ideologies, because it is not an ideology, it is a method to enforce ideology, and all ideologies are susceptible.

totalitarian rule and attempting to crush opposition and opposing views sounds more like the current regime as opposed anything Trump's era was able to accomplish.

Yep, we all agree with you, but you're so stupid, you can't see the fascist for the trees.

ETA - Wait, whose side are you on?

What we're seeing now.. with permanent government colluding with most corporations to push the same messaging. And working together to punish political enemies.

It’s what a socialist starts when his party throws him out because he didn’t want to expand those ideals beyond his borders.

The left has made projection an artform.

And that is just somewhat sarcastic.

I am in awe of how the left has manipulated realty. It is a work of art, even if malevolent.

......

Why do you demand someone be on one side or the other?

I AM interested about what larger fascist forest I'm missing. The OP became a bit of a rant, but the original intent was to be an honest question.

The thing I hate most about today's culture is the lack of meaningful exchange of ideas. I sense you could elaborate, and I genuinely want to read what you have to say.

The difference between the two sides comes down to this:

People on the right want prosperity (ie money)

People on the left want power.

If fascism is “far right”, it is an example of the horseshoe effect because the differences between fascism and a communist / etatist system is virtually indistinguishable
