What happens when Quantum Computing is able to break Bitcoin’s Encryption

With governments around the world investing in Crypto what happens when quantum computing can break the encryption? Seems like we might get there sooner than expected

I'm more worried about my passwords.

Tell me you don't understand encryption without telling me you don't understand encryption.

This is way above my paygrade, but I'm thinking that quantum computing will find a cure for all cancers and then kill all the cancer patients.
Human beings are reactionary, which is why it never gets discussed around here. Scary shite man!

Crypto is really worthless but go get that money while you can on this speculative bubble. At least USD fiat is backed by the US’s overwhelming force and robust economy making it unlikely it fold. I don't get the strategic crypto reserve either. What are we doing? Our own government is shorting its currency? That is a bad signal, right?

My schizo theory is that computers will render themselves obsolete when at some point a rogue AI starts crashing systems all over the globe without any authorization.
Then we all go back to pre-internet technology as the only way to completely contain the rogue program is to disconnect most networks from the global network.

I'll believe China developed such a device when outside sources verify it. China lying about technology advances that they've made are almost as reliable as death and taxes.

Quantum computing is barely feasible. Requires super cold (near absolute zero) vacuums with extensive shielding to avoid interference that makes verification of computation results possible. Also it requires significantly more power than any form of computing before it. We need fusion energy first before QC becomes feasible on the resource side. The science is just starting to turn the corner. The engineering to scale it is nonexistent.

Mine is similar to that except they get to a point where there is no discernible difference in offensive and defensive capabilities so it just becomes a stalemate.
But then again, I don’t know anything about this stuff, so don’t listen to me

By then, quantum will have broken everything else so it won’t matter. Quantum breaks ALL digital encryption. If a file or bank account or cloud storage is connected to the internet in any way, quantum can access it.
A quantum computer can zero every bank account, release every classified file from every world government, publish every human’s ss number and taxes, mine every crypto currency, shut down every power plant, every nuclear missile, access every file on every computer and cell phone, etc ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY.
Quantum computing is to data security what the singularity is to AI: it’s the end of privacy, currency, and secrecy.

Why are we suppose to believe anything coming out of China? They lie about their advanced tech all the time

Quantum Computing will also protect bitcoin.

We need to realize this is the commanding height of the next century. We need to be slamming down on HARD science research grants. DoE supposedly had positive energy fusion a few years ago. That’s good but China is the country publishing the most hard science research. If we don’t change our educational priorities. We’ll be begging for last gen fusion tech from the PRC in the second half of the century.

I agree with you 100% except for this:
Death and taxes are like clockwork. Terrible analogy.
Should have said they are as reliable as living forever and never paying a tax in your life.

Shaun Carroll at Cal is a theorist and has the best mind blowing vids around. He had the uncanny ability to make things understandable until it doesn’t and your head explodes.

Fun fact, China can't lawfare you and put you in jail for your political beliefs, but the doj and fbi can and does.

The way I understand bitcoin works is that it has a finite solution set and part of the reason it takes such massive amounts of energy to generate one bitcoin today is the remaining solutions are very hard computations. Wouldn’t quantum just trivialize the computation of the remaining solutions and end the speculation on its value?
With that said, why does any of this have value?
