It means to get rid of something. It does not necessarily mean to kill something and the stories of its origin are all indeterminate. Restaurant lingo, mob lingo; nobody really knows.

If you had to bet the house, what do you think "8647" drawn out with those pebbles on that beach means?

Webster dictionary says it means to get rid of…. What level is up to interpretation of the actions of the person. I’d think a hit man would mean kill. Someone political could literally remove from office. How? Election, impeachment, etc.

Get real, we all know, in the context of Trump, after 2 failed attempts, they want him dead. That’s exactly what “86 47” means.

jesus christ, are you playing dumb here, or are you really that stupid that you can't connect the dots.....get rid of something.....jesus man (saying that lightly) we know that you are a beta boy, a soy boy, but at least admit again the meaning of 86 means get rid of, eliminate. They use it in Casinos to get rid of someone.....fast forward to Comey using reference of 86 to Trump. Like I said, you can't be this stupid.

Because some corporate media prostitutes owned by intel community pimps never told you what it means.

You have no knowledge outside what you’re told and believe. Name 5 liberals on this board who shite on MSM the way the overwhelming majority of conservative posters shite on Fox.

You can’t. Because you are in a cult.

Oh I think Comey knew what it meant; I just don’t think you know.

I've never heard it to mean "kill". And it is certainly possible that more than half of adults have worked in food service at some point in their lives.

Never heard it described like that. We used it to mean the kitchen was out of an item.

In Popular Culture:

Hip-hop lyrics, gangster films, and TV shows often use “86” in the sense of “get rid of him” or “take him out.”

Example: “He got 86’d last night” — usually implies someone was killed or dealt with violently.

In criminal or gang contexts, "86" typically means:

To kill someone

To eliminate or get rid of someone or something permanently

To banish someone from a group or area

It is serious.

There is no way Comey did not know what he was doing.

If you don't think that, why then did he delete it almost immediately after posting it.

He knew.

Maybe he got caught up in the moment or had a really heavy day on his TDS period.

He is guilty, the question is just to what degree.

As someone who worked in multiple restaurant and bars, never used that term once.

I know it is used. But it's easier to just say you are out of x item.

86ing someone means to kill them.

8 feet long and 6 feet deep.

What do you think than means little scrub?

New guy: Huh?

Chef: We are out of coke zero.

It's just easier.

I wasn't aware of the mob use of the term, but the mob is pretty well known for using various terms for murder that aren't commonly used by the 99.999% of the population that aren't currently mafia affiliated.

In my business (chef), 86 has various meanings:

- remove from menu ("86 the calamari")
- get rid of/throw away ("86 that expired milk in the walk-in")
- bounce a customer ("86 that guy. He passed out in the restroom")
- various other situations, especially jokingly (I found out I was out of floor cleaner the other night when a cook asked me if we were 86ing clean floors)

There are multiple uses for the term.

But in the context of Trump, a guy that has had multiple attempts on his life while deomcrats celebrate it, it doesn mean you are out of something.

This is where everyone is faltering.

quote:

Law enforcement and prison slang:

The term may have been popularized in prisons, where codes and numbers are common ways to communicate covertly.

Inmates might use "86" to refer to killing, discarding, or refusing someone.

In criminal or gang contexts, "86" typically means:

To kill someone

To eliminate or get rid of someone or something permanently

To banish someone from a group or area

Example: “He got 86’d last night” — usually implies someone was killed or dealt with violently.

Here is some examples.

quote:

Ice-T – “Peel Their Caps Back”

“Don’t get 86’d, trick — the Glock will make you split.”
Meaning: Don’t get killed — the gun will end you.

quote:

Tech N9ne – “Psycho Messages”

“They 86’d him when he started talking reckless.”
Meaning: He was eliminated (likely killed or removed from the group) for stepping out of line.

Dont listen to rap? No problem.

quote:

The Sopranos (HBO)
The term is occasionally used in mafia or hitman contexts:

“We might have to 86 him.”
Meaning: They might have to kill or permanently silence someone.

Side note on the Sopranos: It was 86 episodes.

quote:

Reservoir Dogs (1992) – Quentin Tarantino
While not said directly, the concept of “86ing” someone is implied during discussions of betrayal and “clean-up jobs.”

I grew up with this term meaning to off someone.

Here's a story from a month ago about the term "86."

Casino. Org
quote:

It wasn’t until the 1970s, according to Cassell’s Dictionary of Slang, that the term evolved to signify murder. But its evolution had nothing to do with the mafia, driving miles, burial depth, or Las Vegas
Point is, it does refer to killing.
