This bill is an abomination that our country can not afford...To see those "out of touch" reps announcing how proud they are to pass this is just insulting! People are hurting and need help, but this is NOT the way...The unemployment aspect is sinful! Also, people that aren't affected in any way (government employee's, welfare folks, etc...) by this shut down will also get money...absolutely horrible!

Incentivizing people to stay home is flat out wrong...AS the bill is written and passed, if you make $10/hr. you will get half your pay along with an additional $600/week...This means instead of getting paid $400/week for 40 hours of work..You will get paid $800 for staying at home...$20/hour...This is insane! We are incentivizing people to stay home at the exact same time we need a workforce...A job is more than just an income to a lot of people...It gives you purpose...It gives you worth...The best way to handle this is to temporarily and I mean temporarily fund payroll for companies to keep people on payroll and cause the least amount of disruption of people jumping off and on health insurance and unemployment programs. This is just a start...I could go on and on...Also, why is everyone getting checks?!?! If you are a teacher going through this, why do you still get paid your full paycheck along with an extra $3k/month?!?! I get trying to make people whole for something that is not our fault...But Jesus...Getting paid an additions $400/week plus $3k is utterly insane and reprehensible. I could blame democrats all day...Which they have a ton of the responsibility for the other useless crap in here. But republicans signed off on this...They are all soulless sellouts! I am not normally this vocal on political things...But this is not political...I'm calling both parties out for putting more on the backs of our kids and grand kids. This will never be paid for.

all of them are an embarrassment...And to listen to them sing the praises of each other and how proud they are of what they did... Just disgusting! Dems and Reps!

The bill is complete shite but imagine if the 1400 page, $6T Pelosi bill had passed instead?

It would have effectively and immediately ended the USA.

ETA: A question for those more knowledgeable than I...

If someone was already on unemployment do they still get their same amount they were getting, or do they get the $24/hr'ish everyone else gets for 4 months as well?

This bill encourages upper lower class and lower middle class to just be unemployed. You'd make just as much or more. So why bust your arse and not get ahead?

There should never be a rational thought of a person if they're better off working or going on unemployment but many are having that battle in their head right now. It's awful.

For 4 months in an economy that isn't hiring.

Great! You don't need it! You aren't affected! Why would you think you do in the first place? If you make more than the threshold?

The bill gives the average worker a 100% replacement of their income. Some will make less, and some will make more, but most will make around what they made at their jobs.

This delusion that everyone is getting double their pay for sitting at home is a bullshite, but don't let that stop you guys.

It's just the irony of this entire thing that I don't get. Listen I am all for helping out people that need help and getting them through this but $2.2 trillion? And the irony is that the people wanting student loan forgiveness will be the same generation paying for this $2.2 trillion dollar loan.

Agreed but then the politicians couldn’t say “look at what I did for you”.

I didn't, that was your assumption. You made the blanket statement that government employees who are "not affected" would be getting checks. I simply provided you with one example that proved your hypothesis false.

Do you think all $2.2 trillion is going to pay unemployed people more than what they made at work?

Yea, y’all are as irrational as “the liberals.” My wife’s profession was ordered to stand down by the state. There was no choice to be made. Even with the full unemployment benefits we are still going to be behind compared to if she was working.

Exactly. We are essentially paying people not to spread a potentially dangerous disease.

The problem isn't the payment itself but the execution of the payment. That being said, there likely would never be a payment unless it was also filled with garbage because this is how our representatives work.
