The decision should simply come down to whether or not an arrested should or should not be released on bond. The basis for that decision should be the best evidence available. No need to study or reinvent it. There’s a large body of research out there. We just need to use it.
There is still a tremendous amount of discretion involved in making these determinations.

Like the discretion one would use in determining whether or not to screw a homeless person?

We could start with if someone is of enough concern to require an ankle monitor and the crime involved a gun- they stay incarcerated.

Bingo. Because you’d be sending a lot more young black men to prison if they were prosecuted correctly.

Are you in favor of a zero discretion system? The only way to do that is to simply lock up everyone during the “innocence” phase. Or release everyone until conviction.
Discretion with evidence but without cash can still be an improvement.

I am very critical of cash bail. I misinterpreted your other post to imply there is a aimple formula that could be used to solve cash bail.

What kind of short-sighted system relies on the suspect to keep the monitor powered? And if he refused to comply with the terms of his release (charging the monitor), why were there no consequences? What’s the point of the monitor?
Wow the rare common sense post by cubs. I agree if he didn’t follow instructions he should’ve been tossed into jail

How about guidelines similar to the Sentencing Guidelines they have in the federal system?
