He was one of the very few willing to sit and listen to their bullshite for hours on end, and he was killed for it.

And this is where your policy of, "I don't care about any online influencers and neither should you" is obsolete. You should consider the possibility that you're a dinosaur in that regard.
I'm guessing she knew who he was and just thought that would be some sort of weird flex of her persona.

I don’t follow any influencers. I couldn’t name any. I post here and check mt personal social media accounts a couple of times a week, maybe. I lost my appetite for social media beyond discussion boards about 10 years ago.
I accessed my old Twitter account for the first time in over a decade the other day to send NC_Tigah a DM. I created it in 2009 and tweeted scarcely until I stopped tweeting altogether in 2014.
I am happy to be a dinosaur in that regard. Social media has become insanely toxic and negative.

Do not believe his Wikipedia page, it's highly biased. Watch some videos yourself and see if you think he was "hateful."
I never called him hateful.
I don’t care what his message was. A human was murdered. A father and husband. I don’t care what he thinks about trans people or football or the color green. It doesn’t matter. No one deserves to be killed.
His babies were in attendance and they will be traumatized by this for the rest of their lives. There is no silver-lining to this.

How would I know who he is? My husband didn’t know who he is either.
I asked my bestie if she knew who he was before yesterday and her response was “No. I’m not on the republican podcast or collegiate circuit.”
Neither am I.
I don’t consume political content outside of this board. My “recently watched videos” on YouTube include Counting 1 to 5 by The Wiggles and episodes of The Fixies.

This is why I say this murder comes from higher up than people think. This is globalist and DNC .

Yeah, but it's relevant to the culture. I would argue that it's more relevant to the culture than mainstream/traditional content, which is something you've argued against before, "Stop listening to online influencers as though that stuff reflects reality."
It does reflect reality in America, and the fact that you had never heard of this guy who was influential enough to have potentially moved the needle in the last POTUS election means that you are the one who ends up uninformed for ignoring online content, not the rest of us for being aware of it. I read yesterday that the average teenager spends 4.8 hours online every day and most of that time is spent on either Facebook or TikTok.
I'm not saying you have to do that...I'm not on either of those platforms either. Or X, for that matter.
But I do watch a pretty decent amount of content on YouTube. I at least know who Charlie Kirk was.

No, I know you didn't. I can understand why you took it that way, though...I miscommunicated with that post badly and I apologize.
What I was trying to convey (in a hurry) is that I think a lot of people on the left had never ever listened to Kirk based on the fact that they were calling him hateful yesterday. I think all they did was look up his Wikipedia page, which I have noticed really badly mischaracterizes the guy.
He might have been the most affable and decent person doing what he did.
That's all I was trying to say, and I was only trying to say it because you are unfamiliar with him. Not because you said otherwise.

Yeah, but the difference is that you and your husband and your bestie probably never listened to Rush Limbaugh either, but assuming you are old enough to have been an adult hen he was on the air—you probably knew who he was and what his basic message and tone was.
Its fine if you want to ignore the world of online content—I understand why you would—but you will be increasingly ignorant of the voices really influencing thought in America if you make that choice.

I guess? You said Charlie Kirk didn’t have a hateful message, which is probably why I hadn’t heard of him. People here post the most random hateful tweets by no-name random people and that’s what I decry. Stop amplifying hateful opinions of random nobodies. Being plugged into decent people with messages that aren’t full of division and hate doesn’t bother me, but those messages aren’t posted here. Only the hateful ones are.
I’ve been posting here for a long time and I’ve never see the level of hateful rhetoric here as I have over the last couple of years. It’s not normal to read someone calling a stranger a cocksucker or count and just keep scrolling like it’s nothing. Normalizing trashy and frankly idiotic language like that doesn’t elevate discussion or accomplish anything positive at all. I’m not accusing you of doing that but it’s frustrating and disappointing to see that become the modus operandi here.

I doubt you know who the creators I listen to on YouTube are and that’s ok because we are allowed to have different preferences.

Thank you for that. I didn’t think you were accusing me but I wanted to clarify.

Exactly what I've always thought. You live in a liberal echo chamber. You don't even know what else is out there because you're a moron.

Honestly, this place has been pretty legendary for that sort of thing since before I discovered it back around 2019-2020.
The discussion board associated with my university decided to get rid of their political board a couple of years or so ago and that's when I started full time posting here.
And yeah, the level of discussion on the other board was far better. But I'm too much of a political junkie to quit altogether. You'll notice that I will disappear from here from time to time, sometimes for a few weeks, sometimes for up to 4-5 months at a time. That's when I will notice that it's affecting me too much emotionally, that I am becoming needlessly combative or argumentative as a result of being here too much...not just here, but in real life.
quote:
There’s such a “you’re either with me or against me” mentality that’s modeled by even our leaders on both sides. Here too.
Oh, here especially. I post about this a lot b/c I think its the effect of both sides having embraced populism. The only underlying principle of populism is "Us vs Them." That's it. Anything else is subject to change.
quote:
I’m constantly called a democrat because I’m not a Republican.
I will admit that your posting history does lead one to believe that you are a Democrat and not a moderate or an independent. The latter typically finds things they like and don't like about both parties. I can honestly say that I have never seen you post an approval of anything that Donald Trump has ever supported or said. Like, really, ever.
As such, you come across like a friend of mine who will vehemently deny being a Republican. He will claim he's an independent and get fighting mad about it if you persist with him on the question. Yet if you ask him, "In your 30 years of voting in every election, have you ever voted for any candidate who wasn't a Republican?" he will answer no.
So he just registers as an independent. He doesn't vote for 3rd party candidates or Democrats.
And I think he does it just so he can appear to be less biased by telling people things like, "Now, I'm not a Republican, but the Democrats are wrong on this one."
quote:
But then the same people who call people on the other side those horrible vile names are now posting messages asking why other people are so hateful. It’s insane.
It's populism.
But I will say this—I do think there is a difference between the right and left when it comes to going beyond the pale on events like the Kirk assassination. I don't think there are nearly as many people on the right who display no human decency at a time like this as there are on the left.
But then again, populism has owned the Democratic Party since before I was born. It's only owned the Republican Party for 10-12 years. So who knows what it will be like in 20 or 30 more years.

Most definitely.
There will be many young people inspired to take up his efforts.
Now instead of dealing with one, there will be many.....

Before the deportations vamped up, he posted that he wanted to develop an amnesty program for some people who had been here for a long time being productive members of society but entered illegally. I supported that.
And that time he called that black foreign journalist beautiful. I said that was a sweet comment. She was very beautiful.
You also never saw me post any support of anything Biden said or did, either. Not sure why no one noticed that.

Because you also didn't post vehemently against Biden every time he tied his shoes like you do Trump.

How much Charlie Kirk content does your wife consume? I imagine not very much.

Probably as much as I have. I’ll let you try to figure out how much that is.
