This is some very scary shite. My god the USA is just so fricking greedy and their decisions are harming every single American who eats food.
Feeding cows corn instead of grass just to save money
Pumping chickens with basically steroids to make them bigger faster just to save money
I made it through about halfway through the show before dozing off and fell asleep
But this country has major problems with every single thing in this country and it is 100% caused by the government, greed and media.
Also, whenever you are at the grocery store, basically everything on the shelves are the exact same thing just branded and marketed different. It’s all a scam.
If you look at Walmart brand food and items (for example), they are the exact same thing as the branded items because there are only a handful of massive companies making this shite and it’s all just the same shite in different packages

If you minimize processed foods most of these concerns go away.

Who would have thought that companies tried to produce food as cheaply as possible. The horror!

The main culprit is the rapacious short-term profit model. They basically come in, extract as much out of resources and employees as possible, sell off the company at a high, then move on to the next thing to rape and plunder for quick profits. The company that takes over then comes in and slashes the company all over, makes layoffs, cuts benefits, the company turns to shite and it repeats in all industries again.

Yea. It does it really?? Are you really eating “organic” foods and items?
I mean I walk into a grocery store and there is now so much “organic” shite now. Is it really “organic?”
How are the “organic” companies keeping up with the demands of “organic” foods? How are they able to keep up without having to cut some corners? I don’t believe any of it.

Oh you mean like car companies producing cars with cheap brakes and cheap seat belts to save money?

I didn't say anything about organic, I'm just talking about buying raw ingredients and cooking your own meals as opposed to pre-packaged stuff. Sugar is killing us a helluva lot faster than chicken meat that was buffed up with steroids, and sugar is in damn near everything that's been processed.

A few years ago I came to the conclusion that we were being poisoned. HFCS is essentially no different to national decline in health than cigarettes. It's just not as obvious. (Well, over the decades since its introduction it has become more obvious.)
If you want to be somewhat healthy, don't buy food that comes in a box with labels. Buy whole fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Cook your own food. You'll be healthier.

I'm sure it's informative and I'm going to give it a listen, but in the opening she talks about how she was the top WOMAN in her graduating class.

Come out here to California and I’ll show you around. We’re kinda good at growing stuff and feeding the world. We’ll do a tour of Nevada and Arizona too just for added fun.

Come on, what did they really say?
The cost of growing a hay field vs. the cost of growing a field of corn?
Have you priced fertilizer lately? Have you dealt with lack of rain? Or too much rain making field corn no longer suitable for cattle, but maybe for chicken feed?
I know some farmers in Texas who cut hay five times a year. That's a lot of hay, comparable vol of corn just don't happen. much less at a cheaper outlay of resources.

The problem is that civilization is more than just “an economy”. To see everything under the sun as a market results in cheapening of our way of life.
Of course, you can’t but say that without people saying socialism is bad or whatnot. As if saying some improvements are needed to capitalism just a hair is even saying something as terrible as socialism is even being proposed.

But damn dude 15-20 years ago is peanuts compared to all the fricked up shite going on now
I bet that food Inc doc didn’t even scratch the surface back then. I can’t imagine all of the shady shite going on in the year 2023
By the way, 15-20 years ago I was still out partying my arse off and not giving a shite about this crap. Now that I am a little older and have settled down 15-20 years later, it has opened my eyes.

Organic farming done properly has very high yields after the first couple years and the soil activity increases.
Is it fully organic? Probably not because glyphosate persistence is a real thing that nobody seems to understand so everything is still tainted.

This is well said. And the lack of real consumer advocacy in the US shows up most in the food industry and is really hampered by our binary political system. This is an area where there is a lot of overlap on both sides of the political spectrum, but it doesn’t materialize in our government and agencies.
The side by side comparisons of food labels of the same products sold in the US vs Europe should make us all riot. If younger me knew that older me would be agreeing more and more with Ralph Nader . . .
