The only thing that gives me pause is anyone finding this scenario fishy. It’s pretty straightforward: you attack your opponent with the “best” ammunition out there. It is what it is. There’s plenty enough to gasp about to not have to grasp at such a weak point.

It's pretty smart logic.
Being president means playing by your own rules.
If the trump administration put out those rules and meatball Ron knew that COVID rules were wrong, then Ron should have defied them.
This kind of attack highlighted that ron is weak.
It doesn't matter what trump did because he's such an outlier as a personality. He's showing Ron is a rule follower and not someone who leads.
