Was this all done the opposite of how it should have been?

We had the data, we knew who it was targeting, why didn't we quarantine the elderly, sick, and health care professionals early on and provide them support. The economy and everyone else could have trucked on along and gathered herd immunity. The vast majority of us aren't at risk.

It would have made too much sense. By the time we could have made that call governors and mayors were trying to up-dick the next one with their shutdown.

We didn't do enough, if any, early on. That's the problem.

No, the problem was mass quarantine/social distancing. It should have always been selective.

That’s a great analogy only 3 months to late. Keep your current job, pandemic management is not your thang

They should have done exactly what South Korea did

Isn’t that what Sweden is doing?
Different demographics, obviously, but we’ll see how that works out for them

It appears it's not "the experts" either.

Check this out - buddy of mine , his mom has it.
Late 60s
Overweight
High BP
Diabetes
Kidney infection
Just got the test results but she’s been feeling rough for 2 weeks.
She tested positive but now she’s over it.
No treatment at all.

as severity in the <70y/o group appears less than standard flu, often much less, herd immunity through lower risk exposure is not a whacky thesis.

We banned travel from China ten days after the WHO said this wasn’t transmissible human to human.
Nobody knew this would turn in to the worst pandemic in 100 years.

By early on, I'm talking MONTHS ago when people were warning what was coming. Not waiting so long to declare a PHE after first confirmed infection. Disbanding pandemic response of the National Security Council. So many different things that, in summation, we never stood a chance.

Would have needed a dictator to slap down all the lawyers that would have popped up at the first whiff of something like that?

The government always, ALWAYS, makes things much worse. It’s not their fault, it’s just how it is. The FDA, which federally controls everything regarding drug and testing regulations, completely botched the testing equipment. So from the beginning we were at a disadvantage. Then, at the first sign of a breakout, governors and mayors started panicking, shutting down large areas, installing curfews, and threatening businesses. That caused an economic collapse, which caused the federal government to pump trillions of dollars into the economy that we don’t have. The result is that we have a public health crisis that turned into an economic crisis that turned into a fiscal crisis that will turn into a constitutional crisis.

Honestly this was over the second the NBA evacuated a building over a player having the virus. That scared a bunch of people. It played out exactly like Looney Toons in Space Jams.
