So you are an elitist who believes only the rich should be able to defend themselves?
I didn't mention rifles or shotguns. I am thinking more about weapons that are easily concealed. These are the ones that do the most crimes.
I didn't say that a handgun should cost a million bucks, but it also shouldn't be available for the price of a pair of shoes.
If a responsible person feels that he/she needs a handgun, they should be able to save the money for it.

quote:"Southern Man" was released in 1970. I'd bet that most Southerners were pretty damned racist at that time. Why deny it? shite, LSU STILL wasn't allowing black basketball players in 1970.
Neil Young did write some songs that apparently painted all Southerners as racists.

possibly the shoddiest piece of "logic" I've ever read. Do you know how many handguns are stolen every year?
What % of those handguns stolen, are high quality weapons, owned by responsible people that secure them, have gun safes, and shite like that? I would bet that it is a pretty low percentage. There probably isn't any data on this, because it wouldn't be beneficial to either side of the argument.
If you spend a big chunk of money on a handgun, you don't leave it laying around,or unsecured. I know I don't.
I am also not talking about a gun tax, I am talking about some of the companies that are building junk arse weapons, out of cheap materials,,using cheap temporary labor,so they can sell them for 185 bucks. There should be high standards for production.

Things goin on
Well, have you ever lived down in the ghetto?
Have you ever felt the cold wind blow?
Well, if you don't know what I mean
Won't you stand up and scream?
'Cause there's things goin' on that you don't know
Too many lives they've spent across the ocean
Too much money been spent upon the moon
Well, until they make it right
I hope they never sleep at night
They better make some changes
And do it soon
Well, they're goin ruin the air we breathe
Lord have mercy
They're gonna ruin us all, by and by
I'm telling all you beware
I don't think they really care
I think they just sit up there
And just get high
Well, have you ever lived down in the ghetto?
Have you ever felt the cold wind blow?
Well, if you don't know what I mean
Won't you stand up and scream?

All I can do is write about it
Well, this life that I've live has took me everywhere
There ain't no place I ain't never gone
But it's kind of like the saying that you heard so many times
Well, there just ain't no place like home
Did you ever see a she-gator protect her young
Or a fish in a river swimming free?
Did you ever see the beauty of the hills of Carolina
Or the sweetness of the grass in Tennessee?
And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
'Cause I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes
Would you like to see a mountain stream a-flowin'?
Would you like to see a youngin' with his dog
Did you ever stop to think about, well, the air your breathin'?
Well, you better listen to my song
And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
Yes but I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes
I'm not tryin' to put down no big cities
But the things they write about us is just a bore
Well, you can take a boy out of ol' dixieland
Lord but you'll never take ol' dixie from a boy
And, Lord, I can't make any changes
All I can do is write 'em in a song
Yes but I can see the concrete slowly creepin'
Lord, take me and mine before that comes

One could make the case that this practice ensures that those intent on committing crimes with guns are using the crappiest, most likely to fail, pieces of shite out there. I would say this is a good thing.
Regardless, my point earlier was that trying to curtail gun crime with any sort of "price controls" is absolute nonsense.
