Was Frank Zappa somewhat prophetic?

RE: The Slime

Lyrics

quote:

"I'm The Slime"

I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little has changed
I'm the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I'm the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I'm the slime oozin' out
From your TV set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't go for help... no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

That's right, folks...
Don't touch that dial

Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin' room floor

I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin' room floor

I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

He wasn't prophetic enough to even imagine the Internet and social media ... obviously but, he was right. It's still the same thing.

The left, in particular imho, seems easily brainwashed and influenced and poor choosers of their sources of information.

Or is that a biased, even prejudiced, perspective on my part? We are what we eat ... what we feed our brains.

Let's admit the fact that the Internet/social media, podcasts, as well as TV, cable news, etc., influences all of us to some degree. Including this forum.

However, the ones getting their info from CNN, MSNow, Reddit, BlueSky, DU, etc., ... they're the incurable ward of this insane asylum that we're all living in ... imho.

I for one didn't appreciate Frank Zappa while he was with us.

He was one of one.

So the topic of Crossfire was dirty music and the example they used was Duran Duran. Surely Duran Duran was the epitome of dirty music.

He’s a very interesting person, and is intelligent, but lets be frank here. He would have TDS if he was alive today. He hated republicans.

Braden, on the left, was very pro-censorship. Not something we would see from the left today, but his CIA days were definitely showing in that episode.

Probably not. One thing Frank hated just as much as Republicans, was Democrats. His political leanings were most likely moderate libertarian.

Dreamed I was an eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below

It was a hundred degrees below zero...
And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty eskimo

Save your money, don't go to the show
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said ho, ho
And the northern lights commenced to glow

And she said, with a tear in her eye
Watch out where the huskies go,
and don't you eat that yellow snow
Watch out where the huskies go,
and don't you eat that yellow snow

Zappa clearly was a deep thinker....

Not from what I have seen of his interviews.

To the point that 80% of the Congresspeople responsible for the Congressional hearings and eventual labeling of music that he fought like his life depended upon it were Democrats, but every time the subject came up he railed against Republicans.

He had a lot to say about words not being magic and being able to hurt anybody and he did predict that in the future the government would control speech, but again, he always blamed Republicans.

I saw Zappa live in the early 80s. I wasn’t much of a fan*, but he was interesting and his concerts were must see events.

* I did like the MoI Live at the Fillmore album from ‘70 or ‘71.

Zappa was a true libertarian, he was also a musical genius.

Those who worked with him say he was an unforgiving taskmaster when he was in the creative zone composing music, trying to convey to the other musicians in his band how the written music should be interpreted and played. He was also a very wise man, he warned Nanook to not eat the yellow snow.
