To be fair, in every interview I saw he stated he was a "Vietnam Era Veteran". I think it was the media being either lazy or trying to turn the crank a little harder on the outrage machine that shortened it to "Vietnam Veteran". Maybe there's a quote out there of him claiming "Vietnam Veteran" but I haven't seen it yet.
Your post illustrates perfectly the underhanded tactics of the DimMedia, technically they’re not lying but they do everything they can to not present the “complete truth”.
The methods and level of deception used by the DimMedia is astounding.

quote:No question. Neither did Trump. Neither did I for that matter. I did a great deal for the USAF. Combat, per se, was not one of the things I did.
It appears that he has never claimed that he fought in Vietnam.
OTOH, Chief Drumming Bull intimates he fought in Vietnam. Those claims are his own. He originated them. He's dishonest in pushing them. Period.

Please tell us what mos recon ranger is. I'll wait.
I don't think it carried an official Marine Corps MOS designation because there just weren't very many Marines who got to go to Ranger School. Even so, it was acknowledged as being as far as you could go, as a Marine.
Like I said before we even had running cadences about it at P.I..
Those little songs didn't mean anything official of course, but they were motivational, reminding you to do your best, and what you could achieve.
A Marine that got to go to Ranger School was a special SOB and other Marines took notice of it, even if the official MOS designations didn't reflect it.
I remember singing those cadences well...and so does my daughter, because I used to make her sing it when I would take her running with me. I did dial some of the parts back a little though
Edit to add: I don't know anything about this Indian drummer thing..don't know much about this story Have been staying away from all TV and not much internet lately. Just chimin in on the Recon Ranger thing.

He never claimed to have fought in Vietnam. You can call him an idiot without accusing him of stolen valor.

Vietnam vet is the worst thing you could find.
You can claim to be a Vietnam vet having never fought in Vietnam?
That's an acceptable description to veterans who fought in that war?
Sincerely asking.

Run the whole quote.

It depends who you ask. Several organizations say anyone who served on active duty during that war is a Vietnam veteran. I believe that includes the VA. They do the same thing for Gulf War vets, whether they deployed or not. The distinction between Vietnam-era and Vietnam vet is somewhat recent as far as I know.
