(Yes - I know trashy but wanted to prep for cooking tomorrow.).

Anyway, I’m guessing today was payday for Louisiana Purchase Card holders. Cars were there in droves toting a minimum of three kids a car. It was an absolute madhouse. The only “value” shopping that was done looked like it was from maybe two others that actually looked like they didn’t need to. The rest had the finest name brands that WalMart could provide.

I guess the other thing that struck me funny was the amount of Messicans that I saw there as well.

My point other than to vent was to predict that anyone whoever threatens welfare reform will be facing law firms from not only WalMart but Nabisco, Keebler, Coca Cola, etc... I would assume those companies have a lobbyist in every leftist back pocket that are keeping the culcha on the plantation. The decadence of the shite they were buying was startling.

TL;DR Your tax money designated to “assist” the poor is being grossly mismanaged and encourages decadent spending.

Honestly I hate to admit this, but I think we have totally lost this country. We are trying to hold on to it but it's just getting out of control. Sad times.

WalMart is subsidized twice.

First, with food stamp sales

Second, by paying such shite wages, most of their employees still qualify for welfare themselves.

Not only is the government their largest customer, but they also help pay for their employees.

I have several thoughts on this, considering I live in Bentonville.

First, age discrimination laws actually work against Walmart's reputation. Cashiers and stockers are jobs designed specifically for part time high schoolers and college students.

If I was a store manager that didn't have to worry about age discrimination I would laugh at anyone over 30 that applied.

Second, I think saying Walmart is benefiting from government assistance to it's employees is absurd. It's actually the other way around. Many of these people would be on 100% government assistance without Walmart. These same people by having jobs at Walmart actually leach less from the taxpayers because if their job.

Third, how can Walmart be responsible for an employee that's a single mother that chooses to have 5 kids? This is a decision Walmart has zero control of, but requires more government assistance.

TLDR, I think Walmart putting some cash into the ditch diggers of the world actually takes some burden off of the taxpayers.

Imagine looking into people’s carts that you don’t know and making judgments.

Imagine using “finest brands” and Walmart in a sentence. Lol

I don’t get this. The average hourly pay for a Walmart associate is over $14 per hour. It’s not great, but it’s enough income that a family is 3 would not qualify for SNAP benefits from that income alone. Even their minimum wage of $11 would put a full-time employee in a 2 person household over the limit.

So if they are getting benefits, then it’s likely a person is either not working full-time, which could be Walmart’s decision or the individual’s, or they have a larger household, especially if there only income.

I’m not sure how Walmart is to blame for anyone qualifying for assistance unless they limit someone’s hours full time who wants to work.

Besides, we complain when low prices go higher, so we probably shouldn’t complain about something that would make them go higher, especially given what I stated above. And the alternatives used to be a lot of smaller stores that either laid as poorly, or even worse, with higher prices.

Where is this WalMart? I know quite a few people that I am a work with right now who would head there in a second. CNA, monitor tech, unit secretary...heck...I better not tell them or there would be no one here but me.

But please...do tell where this WalMart is that a cashier can make $14 an hour?

Is there any industry now that isn’t rife with government subsidies?

Almost every business plan includes some form of rent-seeking to support profitability. It’s unsustainable.

I made the mistake of going down to the river in Baton Rouge about 5 years ago for the 4th of July fireworks display. If I didn’t know better, I’d have thought I stumbled across the southern border. The place was crawling with Latinos.

So it’s your contention that if they weren’t employed by Walmart then they would need less assistance?

By this measure, it is not just Walmart on the dole. Every store that accepts the EBT card is essentially trying to cash in on government benefits gravy train even gas stations with 3 pieces of fruit to sell are now set up to accept EBT.

welcome to 2019

also, your post is a good example of how welfare programs don't/can't build wealth. they just are transfer programs from middle/upper class citizens to corporations, landlords, medical systems/doctors, etc

the poor people who "benefit" are just conduits for this transfer

If my wallet is involved in someone else's decision you bet your arse I'm going to form an opinion about that decision.

You don't want to be judged? Pay for it yourself.

At least those Walmart employees are getting off the couch and down from the porch to go to work every day. Part-timers even are better than those who sit on their arse and do nothing all the time.
