It’s a Louisiana tradition to look the other way if you or a relative is benefiting from the corruption.

Just at the micro level, no business wants to be beholden to whether it will or will not get promised tax breaks dependent on whether or not the local school board can balance their own budget; which is exactly what happened when EBR denied ITEP promises to Exxon on the eve of Exxon deciding where to spend several billion dollars on expanding gulf coast operations at one of its three refineries.

Rispone will rescind JBE's executive order on ITEP in the first week in office.

ITEP is something the locals absolutely cannot be trusted with and the EBR and Exxon mess proves as to why that is.

Politicians are predominantly lawyers who get in office and create laws that require more lawyers. It's the ultimate crony game in the USA

Tax exemptions are approved at the local level in Texas. As they should be. It works fine over there. There's nothing wrong with ITEP as it is now. If the locals are morons and want to hold Businesses hostage then let them reap what they sow. The Exxon debacle is an indictment on BR and liberal ideology not on local control.

I hear ya, but then the state economy suffers. We aren't talking about a Wal-Mart, these are major regional economic drivers.

The case against JBE is pretty easily made and the linked piece does a good of it, but ...

Many Louisianians have a hard time knowing what Rispone will be do and the candidate does not appear to be in much of a mood to tell them. Just putting an R by your name doesn't guarantee good government, as Bobby Jindal demonstrated so clearly. With good reason, many see Edwards as the guy who cleaned up Jindal's mess and balanced the budget. I wish Rispone would make a better case for how he will build on JBE's fiscal success and give us the economic growth the rest of the country has been experiencing.

"Say what?? "

Are you suggesting that the budget situation did not improve under JBE? If so, that's as absurd as the Dems who refuse to give Trump any credit for the state of the national economy. I don't even like how JBE got to budget surpluses, but you're deluding yourself if you don't think swing voters aren't giving him credit for that.

The financial success is an illusion. Edwards put govt. over the people when he raised taxes so much taking billions out of the economy over four years and diverted it to bigger govt.

His tax increases and his support of the trial attorneys cost us jobs and sent people packing.

If all you do is grade a governor on a balanced budget then yes Edwards was a fiscal success, but there is much more than that. All of our governors balance the budget one way or another. We need one to balance the budget and fix some of our issues.

How many times did we elect Edwin? This state is full of morons.

To be fair...even Edwin Edwards was a better governor than the current version. He would've never threatened to cancel LSU football or throw the elderly from their nursing home beds just to increase taxes.

Edwin might've (illegally) demanded partial ownership of a few nursing homes through a shell corporation, but he would've found a way to be less pitiful politically than the current occupant.

If you consider stealing from the working citizens of the state of Louisiana in the form of over taxation a budget improvement you can bet your arse I’m CLEARLY stating the budget situation DID NOT improve under that lying, crooked, no good POS, edwards!
