Wait times exploding for Canadians waiting on healthcare procedures

To illustrate the magnitude of rationing (and the trend), one can examine the evolution of the median number of weeks between referral by a general practitioner and receipt of treatment from 1993 to 2024. In most provinces (except one), the median wait time in 1993 was less than 12 weeks. Today, all provinces are close or exceed 30 weeks. In two provinces, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, the median wait times exceed 69 weeks. For some procedures, such as neurosurgery, the wait time (for all provinces) exceeds 46 weeks.

They’re lucky the care is free as they’ll be dead before taking advantage of it.

I remember one of my friends from Canada blew his knee out and waited 6 mos for an MRI

Still not as bad as the VA.

The ones that can come to the U.S. for procedures.

If Trump really wanted to hurt Canada, he'd bar Candians from getting elective medical treatment in the US.

I’m not sure if anyone remembers this or not.:

Even their politicians come here for important, maybe even life saving, surgeries. If you need further proof as to how fricked up their system is I’m not sure I can give it to you.

Rich folks from Europe come here for this as well.

American leftists hailed Cuba's free medical program. Great hospitals under Castro. Then when Castro got old and sick he flew to Europe for surgery.

My MIL had 2 bad knees. She was an RN supervisor for years, knew their systems backwards and forwards, and go the new knees in a timely fashion.

I've seen the same sort of things with the National Health Service in England...my ex's father was denied a MRI because he was over 70. A timely MRI would have detected the blood clot that later left him with one functioning lung.
With Medicare, he would have had a MRI in a timely fashion and been treated for the blood clot.
As far as the VA is concerned, some of it depends on what hospital you're being treated at. At a good VA hospital, you'd be seen quickly.

Can’t have it free and fast
Gotta pick one or the other

Yeah, you're right. I don't know what I'm talking about. It isn't like I have had to deal with them for twenty years now. There's no way I could create an informed opinion on the Va after twenty years.

it's not free either, unless Canada is a tax-free nation, which I've been told it is not.

Seriously, if you have a chronic condition, move somewhere close to big active-duty installations. My sister and BIL are served by the VA in the Pensacola area, don't seem to have any problems.
not arguing, just offering a suggestion

I’m sure that’s baked into their funding projections. If more people die it costs them less money.

Maybe it’s just you as everyone I know has no issues on necessity care. If you are just going there because your splinter is hard to remove then you might have an issue. Hell even my sons aide has timely access for Psychiatrist appointments scheduling

Why is ours so bad? Who did it?
Which is better?
Serious question - our 2 big "esteemed" professions are law and medicine? Why have their practitioners just gone for the money and let the people curating their professions be such absolute shite?
