KM isn't great, but ousting him is going to consolidate power with the DEMs. How is that a victory?

Gaetz is laying out a good argument right now.

McCarthy fricked himself. Sounds like he made a lot of stupid mistakes.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.

He was accused of working for the DEMs

I point out he achieved possibly the biggest anti-DEM victory in decades, and asked if the DEMs wanted that.

You said that was eons ago, politically. What did this comment have to do with the commentary, if it wasn't implying he's been bought and paid for since the Supreme Court flip?

The calculus changes a bit now. A new name can now drum up support without ruffling McCarthy who was the clear favorite the first time around. In round one, you had to be afraid that if you tried to be speaker, McCarthy would punish you if he won. Now, you can openly be ambitious and claim it is for the good of the party and not have to step on McCarthy to do it. You just have to step over his corpse.

Completely right. It just takes one person to stand against the flow to get the ball rolling, always

The desire for purity is killing the party. Nothing better for democrats.

The familiar refrain from the enemy. Read the 2012 election autopsy, then look at the 2016 election. This is wrong and counter intuitive. The Left has won since Nancy was made speaker by becoming more and more pure and punishing its enemies internal and external. They push the diversity and purity nonsense in their political propaganda exercises. The answer is not for the party to be more like democrats in terms of its policy. The answer is to be an actual alternative to democrats, not democrats lite.

McCarthy gambled and was wrong.

I don't care about Kevin McCarthy. He can get fricked for all I care. I care about stopping the DEMs.

Stout posted a comment in his thread about it where she said she'd have voted no.

I frankly expect McCarthy to be voted back as speaker after an extensive public humiliation exercise but only after more concessions are made to Gaetz and crew.

So McCarthy makes promises, gets voted in, doesn't keep them, gets voted out, makes more promises bur really means them this time, gets voted back in, rinse and repeat? There's no incentive structure if they're just going to vote him back in on the basis of promises when he didn't deliver the first time.

Perhaps I responded to the wrong post. I didn't see any talk about Mitch.

But it's not a zero sum game. They can do good things, while still being generally bad.

Saying he flipped the court, while true, doesn't give him carte blanche to do all kinds of evil shite.

I go back and forth between this being irrational and just wanting to burn it all down.

I think the problem is, who wants to even apply, at this point?

That's why so many people expect KM to end up being SOH again. AT least we know he wants the job.

I asked it earlier and didn't get an answer, but you seem to think he's stopped the Dems. So educate me. What is McCarthy's greatest accomplishment as speaker?

It's not about being evil (the discussion at least). It was about him being the same as DEMs/working for DEMs.

Clearly, this is bullshite.

The whole "Uniparty" talking point is just silly. Mitch McConnell and his legacy with appointments to the federal courts is a perfect example of this, from breaking Senate custom to stall Merrick Garland to doing the same thing to get ACB in there immediately.

Who wants to apply? You have to be kidding. You don’t think anyone in that chamber wants power?

She spoke on KM's behalf. I doubt she'd be any different (and face the same bullshite from the DEMs and the pro-DEM Gaetz faction)

You really think that the most power hungry group of goobers in the world won't try to be speaker of the house now that the office is vacant? Your read on this situation is so incredibly off, it's kind of amazing.

shite McCarthy humiliated himself and prostrated himself to get it and moved in to the office before he even got it. Now all of a sudden it is too hard to be that important? Please.
