Why can we not give the residential portion to maryland?
It worked just fine with Arlington being part of VA.
Will give them representation and keep the capital as a district.

Wouldn’t that immediately give control of the senate to the Dems. No way a GOP senator could win in DC.

This isn't being done for any purpose other than to further cement power. Which means it shouldn't be done. It isn't being done to give a voice to the people of DC or anything for their local benefit. It is wholly to give 2 more democrats to the senate.

Or let them register to vote in MD for federal elections. So you can live in DC but still get to vote. Easy.

Why wouldn't they wait until they officially got rid of the filibuster? As it stands right now, it wouldn't make it past the senate. They would need 60 votes which would require 10 republicans to say yes. I just don't see that happening

The 23rd amendment allows them to vote. At-least in presidential elections.

So D.C. becomes the 51st state by a Vote of 51-50. I can’t imagine what the founders would be saying about our country right now.
