It’s not even 5% of the budget and that covers all the VA - Benefits, Buildings, salaries, etc.

Your grandfather also didn’t grow up where there was a war for 20 years. There is people who probably do scam it but you’re talking a small percentage. If they want to fix that maybe they should change their evaluation and ratings system.

Maybe you should direct your anger at the US paying death gratuity and benefits to Ukrainians…,

The VA took care of my dad's cancer. Before that it was his mental breakdown.

He had no visible wounds.

Thanks

That's a difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals believe spending money is virtuous and that the primary function of the government is to spend money and employ people. It doesn't matter if the spending is wasteful, helpful, or detrimental. Just claiming that they are spending shows that they care. Even if it's money we don't have.

He could probably cut double or triple that amount and if done correctly - Veterans wouldn't even notice it. People forget how fricking absolutely wasteful the federal government is.

Dems use Bureaucracy as a tool to "spread the wealth around" and buy a block of the electorate. DEI hires out the wazoo, many with 'diploma mill' resumes which means bigger pay. You can damn well bet that Vivek sees this and will implement policy which guarantees that the money will go to the VETS as opposed to the government employees who are supposed to be serving the Vets over themselves.

This is like one of those 501 charities that use all of the money for 'fundraising' and the supposed recipient that the donors are moved to serve, a left sucking hind tit.

Assuming the above, I still don't know how this massive cutback in the government employee sector will affect the economy. Recession...I suppose?

I've met many guys who see it as game to get a higher percentage of disability. Many the only combat they saw was pot shots towel heads would take at the base they hardly left.

I'm not saying these guys deserve nothing but it's definitely abused.

I work for the VA, and I use the VA for some some services as I have been diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and also legally blind ( less than 10 degrees of peripheral vision, no night vision)

Most of the bloat are in ancillary position or even in administrative positions that need to be streamlined. If anything, the VA needs more personnel that can provide direct patient contact.

Second, all veteran are assigned to tiers. Most do not have service connected disabilities or rise above the income threshold. Other tiers allow for care yet for copay type of costs. And then some receive 100% heatlhcare (medical, prescriptions). 100% SC get dental benefits as well.

In my opinion, anyone whom serves this country, and was willing to put their arse on the line, and did time honorably deserves VA. The issue here is the vast red tape and waste in the department.

And, to your point about Papaw, my Dad was shot and blown up with shrapnel in Vietnam. When he came home a lot of papaw's generation's advice was to have a drink and suck it up. Real fricking bad advice, the VA gave little attention to PTSD in the 1970's and some of these guys, including my dad were raging alcoholics and drug users.

I think your post really could have used a lot more nuance.

There is a shitload of old vietnam vets who have lived on these islands most of their life living off the govt.

Their occupation is smoking weed.

Most of what you hear is bullshite.

Like getting rid of the department of Ed means trump is shutting down schools. No it means getting rid of administrative bloat.

And the doe and teachers union are the ones that kept schools shut down.

That's probably just cutting out the money that was earmarked for "transition surgeries.'

Cutting the bloated and ineffectual VA budget and “cutting healthcare for veterans” are not even close to the same thing

Look up how many combat vets have committed suicide in the parking lots of VA facilities because they couldn’t get the help they needed. That should enlighten you a bit

There is nothing in this world that isn’t abused but unless you’ve been there or served you have zero idea what you’re talking about. The VA has already revised a lot and there are less vets today getting full benefits because we haven’t been at war for a few years now. It’s not like you write down what’s wrong to you and they approve it, getting full benefits isn’t as easy as you think and all this is evaluated by doctors, diagnostics and paperwork that verify claims.

Yep, after shutting down for Covid I never want to hear a teacher whine about lack of school support again.

Same. Most districts got millions of dollars and have either got very nice new facilities or they’re sitting on that money.
