there are some on the right that are as bad as the left when it comes to govt forcing private companies to do something they want done.

Yes. They want the government to stay out of their life and their business until they hear wfh then they become the leftist they loath.

federal yes, private no. if a private company feels like it's better to have remote workers, the govt shouldn't tell them otherwise

They should be no work from home. It's a scam, people going to the gym and grocery shopping while on the clock. AI is about to solve this problem anyway. If your job requires you to sit at home and work from a computer you are about to be replaced.

When did Vivek say anything about the private sector?

Where did someone in this thread say anything about it?

If you work for a private company that allows it more power to you.

Yea Vivek isn’t talking private sector here

I’m just as productive on my home days as I’m in office. It’s just easier for me to then play ps5 or go golf if I’m remote that day

Not for everyone. Some people might be able to scam the system, but you couldn't do it long enough to be succesful. You would eventually get busted.

In most jobs, there are primary people who need to be present and acoountable for things to run smoothly. These days office space is a premium. If support staff can function effectively from home, business is OK with that.

maybe for some, but not all. you have 100's of thousands of WFH employees from private companies. if the private company is good with it, why should govt get involved?

The government should be 7 days a week, no reason I should have to take off work to accomplish things that they make me do.

When I worked for the DoD. Telework was awesome. But I was on my business and didn’t have an issue. Others not so much.

It should be something you earn through hard work. Reserved for the most productive people.

Some good responses to this excellent statement.

To add a data point - I work for a large public utility - Last year, they told teams to start coming back into the office 3 days a week. Departments shed almost that many (8%) resources, just from this news.

Not only are many of these employees “work from home”, most of them do less than 30 hours of work a week and on top of that have disgustingly high salaries and pensions to boot. It’s a complete sham at the expense of the tax payers.

Some people don't like driving 40 mins one way to log on to a cloud based solution and dial in to teams meetings with people half way across the country.

So it’s a good use of taxpayers money to pay for buildings that aren’t being used?

The real truth is that the leases on these buildings have not been renewed. The main thing driving this argument is the Mayor of DC complaining that DC no longer benefits from captured labor. GSA (the agency that manages most facilities) has divested itself of a huge number of properties and buildings. So now to bring everyone back in (that really don't NEED to be back in) they'd have to procure the space again, and in many cases modernize the space.

And again, many of these employees are unnecessary paper pushers who would never be missed if fired.

This is just an uneducated take. While I can think of several programs that should be eliminated, they represent a ridiculously small percentage of gov workers. I'd love for you to point out exactly WHICH "paper pushers" need to be fired. Most people who say stupid shite like that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Even leftists will admit DC is filled with bureaucratic bloat. Buck Sexton who worked in DC for years said they could eliminate at least 50% of those employed there and no one would notice.
