FLIR is the best we have to track relatively small moving targets, especially from another airborne platform.These units are ridicilously expensive.

Below is a video released by the Chilean Navy and they toggle back and forth from IR to visual spectrum and you can see that when on visual spectrum you cant see anything. Also notice how whatever is being released shows up on IR.

if we were able to hit it with a hellfire missile it is definitely man made.

They are hiding nothing!! The military will let another country fly its planes or jets near our asset without launching a hellfire missile but, for no reason, will launch a hellfire missile at a UFO or something they know nothing about?

Have they seen the MOTHERSHIP? What makes the US military want to take that on?

While this specific example and other modern reports may be explained as such, how does this explain all of the similar reports from before modern technology? This isn't a recent phenomenon; there have been unexplainable UFO sightings throughout history. Not everything can be swamp gas etc.
