Trying to remain relevant. Makes sense. I won't claim to be well versed on Venezuelan politics beyond Maduro being the head of state.

Venezuela like many S American nations has/had a very similar govm't structure to the US.
However, Maduro/Chavez rigged elections for so long they were able to subvert and destroy and change many aspects to turn their nation into a dictatorship... Just like Germany did in the 30s.
