I think the taper off of coal will get a lot slower after this year mostly because the plants that are still around are still pretty new and as long as trump is president it will stay that way. I hope.

For what? 40k in student debt for jobs that pay 40k a year at best?

I lean right but some of you guys here live in bubbles. A good deal of Americans displaced from outsourcing are not doing better by any means.

Agreed. IB melts too much over tariffs but I agree with his general stance. They are not a positive for the US consumer. Hopefully they will end soon.

If Trump pulls off a better trade deal with China over a few months of tariffs than good for him. Otherwise I think he's risking a lot of the positives that he's done for the economy.

I assume that you mean you. I work in IT. Move to Texas or ND. Follow the work. I seem to recall that you are a pretty young man. If you are willing to work and learn than you can make a decent living.

Let me explain how I see things.

There is literally nothing I can think of that I agree with democrats on. Why should I attack their stances on a forum like TD?? Most everyone agrees with me on those.

I feel republicans and libertarians have an obligation to attack the positions their candidates take that are outside conservative, small government, individual freedom thinking. Who has more creditability to call BS on a republican policy than another republican??

I called BS on Jindal spending money on film credits while claiming to be a conservative.

I call BS on Trump now for imposing all these cost on Americans and for obviously letting the steel foxes in the hen house.

I understand the tariffs because I did have to fight them in my own company. I did testify at the tariff hearings. Our products were removed from the tariff list. I do know the process and have had to read the actual directives and understand the importance of the directives.

When I tell people here what they perceive to be the goals of the tariffs are not what the goals are I know what I am talking about.

I don't have to research much to post here. I read the WSJ daily. I watch CNBC and Maria Bartiromo almost every morning. I knew the steel companies were going to make a bunch of money and I read reports of their earnings and they were exactly as I suspected.

I am absolutely amazed at how Trump has these supporters so blind to the impact of these tariffs. When he says the tariffs are on $200 billion of goods that is only what the government will actually tax. What he doesn't say is that by tariffing these goods the prices of all production of those items will go up by the tariff amount--domestically produced or imported. Thus a trillion dollars of price increases might happen as $200 billion are tariffed.

But anyway people here love to argue about tariffs and I am quite happy to oblige.

Maybe Chicken is getting some extra adwords clicks as the posters down vote me 100 or 150 times.

So they have space in my head so to speak but people aren't interested in the other political positions I have because they mostly agree with them.

BNSF runs less coal out of the Powder River basin because coal-burning power plants here in Alabama are switching to natural gas, thanks to fracking up in the Bakken: Natural Gas is Killing Coal

But I'm sure you can get on in the Milk River sub. running crude to the West Coast. Havre is lovely in February!

I can move to TX but not ND unless I want to give up my conductors seniority. ND is closed seniority but TX isn't.

Thing is if you rely solely on one source to power the nation it will eventually bite you in the arse. We need to keep our sources diverse. Trump even agrees on that.

I remember my time in the transportation industry.

When capacity dried up I kicked my customer in the teeth and made big profits.

When capacity outgrew demand for trucks my customer kicked me in the teeth.

It's within their power to change their own lives if they're not happy, not the governments.

There are two kind of people.

The guy who's always a victim waiting for the gubment to save him, and the guy who has power over his owl life, and makes things happen

This is still the land of opportunity

I don't understand why all the people so upset with immigration aren't pushing to shut down Conagra and IBP and all the other big corporations that cannot survive without cheap, immigrant labor. They aren't coming here to just sit on their asses. Someone is giving them work! Maybe because we like cheap beef and chicken.

You are talking to someone that agrees with you in this particular case. There are some Trump supporters that remind me of Obama supporters. You aren't changing their minds no matter what you say.
