American and Russian troops reportedly squared off again in northeast Syria today after a Russian convoy ventured into territory controlled by the US-led international coalition against the Islamic State.
The Rojava Information Center reported that a Russian patrol came face-to-face with an American convoy on a road outside the city of Derik, in Syria’s far northeast corner near the Turkish and Iraqi borders. The standoff blocked local civilian traffic for hours, leading local police authorities to try to intervene, Syrian Kurdish journalist Hoshang Hasan reported.
Other reports said the US convoy prevented the Russians from moving into Derik, thus forcing them to turn back to Qamishli, where Russian forces shares a base with troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

We’re still over there? Didn’t trump fire mattis because mattis didn’t want to withdraw troops from Syria when trump announced he was going to?

We keep on blocking each other’s patrols.

It’s become a game.

I couldn’t care less about mattis. Only brought him up because he was in the news today. But did I get that right about why he was fired. If so, why are we still over there? I thought trump announced we were withdrawing everyone.

There is trillions of dollars worth of assets over there and pulling the military out will lose money for a lot of politicians. Its not as easy as it sounds.

Why do you think Mattis is so upset? He would lose money if we pulled out.

Trump announced it last October.... we only had about 1000 troops there at that point. If he wasn’t going to withdraw them all, he shouldn’t have made the big announcement.

...That's why I asked the question in this thread to begin with. I thought it was "all."
