U.S. Navy Destroyer can’t deploy because CO won’t get COVID vaccine.

It’s a standoff the brass are calling a “manifest national security concern,” according to recent federal court filings.

Merryday’s injunction is “an extraordinary intrusion upon the inner workings of the military” and has essentially left the Navy short a warship, according to a Feb. 28 filing by the government.
How difficult for them! The nerve of that CO.! He's setting a horrible example for the sailors under his command.

I sort of expected to read that they couldn't deploy because one of the sailors was transitioning.

I'm too lazy to read the article...do they not have someone else in line to relieve the CO of duty? It seems that would be a prudent thing to do in the military.

So we have one Captain that is capable of taking control of this ship and sending it on its way. Out of all the US Navy this one captain is all we have? Only in Joe Biden’s Navy would this be a problem.

Apparently we have only one Captain smart enough to not risk his life for something that doesn't work.

There should be an XO or some other officer directly under the CO that could take control of the ship

Well the vaccine is beside the point tbh. We are in a sticky spot in history right now and we probably need all the ships deployed as we can get right now. To hold up one ship over 1 person is just kind of dumb when we have other Captains in the Navy. He’ll promote the XO. Holding up a warship over 1 man is just dumb.

Without making a comment on vaccines one way or the other, the fact that they can’t get this ship underway because of this is simply pathetic.

The S.S. Minnow would probably run more efficient than any ship in our Navy under Biden.

War Room had Chris Kobach on this morning and Kobach is the lawyer representing 21 Air Force pilots who are getting shite canned because they were denied a religious exemption

Or just say frick the covid shot and get moving. Imagine if there was a physical battle going on and they held up this ship because someone wouldn't get an unnecessary shot. No way they could budge in that direction though because it would make those in charge look like the idiots we already know them to be.

What would they have done if he had been hospitalized after falling down a gangway?

Don't they have contingencies to replace captains if they're unavailable for duty?

Injunction prevents firing or removal. There are 26 SEALS under a similar injunction. Once the final judgements are rendered, I think a lot of those discharged are going to get reinstated and paid. Everyday more info comes out about the faux pandemic.

THIS. He's in the military. Less than honorable discharge for him, next man up and sail the ship.

Any a-hole taking up for this moron needs to rethink their priorities. The military is not a democracy.

Looks like another case of the one-size-fits-all bureaucrats not recognizing the superiority of natural immunity.

Covid is not a threat to most sailors and Marines unless they are in a serious comorbidity group. Active duty is not for the elderly too.

quote:

COVID commander

The Feb. 28 filing alleges that the commander has already disregarded Navy regulations after he “exposed dozens of his crew to COVID-19 when he decided not to test himself after experiencing symptoms.”

A declaration filed in early February by Brandon states he visited the Navy commander aboard his ship in November and that the ship CO “could barely speak.”
